Don't newborns of all races have less pigmentation? I can imagine that being really startling to people in Elizabethan London.

The second Guildhall entry does reach quite a level of concentrated awfulness, yes. But I am excited about Miranda Kaufmann's book, even if I do have to wait until 2016...
