Why can't he be a librarian? Or a teacher? Or, as you say, a baker? Ugh, yeah, recent news has made me deeply disinclined to consume media involving cops. She says, still watching Hannibal, but I'm watching that one for the psychiatrist who eats people. ;)

(…oh dear. I just realized that I made my immortal character [in that story I never finished] a person who works in a bookstore, after spending most of his life working in the printing and bookselling trades. At least I'm consistent?)
I have never been able to watch Hannibal (not even for Hugh Dancy!) because I'm a total wuss, but I think it gets a pass.

Sometimes I feel like I shouldn't even call this thing I started writing years ago a "story," because it is really a bunch of scenes in which two characters sit around and talk to each other. I don't even think I ever made it clear that he used to be a printer: it's one of those things I know about him (uh, like his parish church in seventeenth-century London) that never actually got written down anywhere. :)
