Has anyone else seen commercials for this ABC show Forever that started tonight? I only noticed them at first because I recognized Ioan Gruffudd - but then it turned out that the premise involved a man who's been alive for hundreds of years and can't die

I watched a bit of it last night. Not bad. It's going to be up against Person of Interest starting tonight, though, and I doubt I'll bother to record it for later viewing.

Yeah. I think I was even more frustrated after I'd watched the first episode, because why would you take that premise and waste it by just having him solve crimes with his Sherlock-style deduction skills? There are already so many detective shows out there. I know people must tune in to them, otherwise networks would stop making them, but having an immortal hero really does give you the opportunity to do something different.

I don't particularly want to watch this show - the last time they tried this, with New Amsterdam, the show was terrible, and seriously, why do the immortals always have to be cops and medical examiners, and not, say, bakery owners?*

Why can't he be a librarian? Or a teacher? Or, as you say, a baker? Ugh, yeah, recent news has made me deeply disinclined to consume media involving cops. She says, still watching Hannibal, but I'm watching that one for the psychiatrist who eats people. ;)

Oh man, I would watch a show about an immortal librarian so hard. It would be my favorite show! I would even try to write fic for it. :)

(…oh dear. I just realized that I made my immortal character [in that story I never finished] a person who works in a bookstore, after spending most of his life working in the printing and bookselling trades. At least I'm consistent?)

I have never been able to watch Hannibal (not even for Hugh Dancy!) because I'm a total wuss, but I think it gets a pass.

It is definitely not a show for the squeamish, although if you haven't seen Pushing Daisies, I highly recommend it as a far less violent alternative (with bonus ADORABLE Lee Pace) and a truly epic quantity of pie.

I want to read a book about an immortal printer who becomes a bookseller!

I did see the first season of Pushing Daisies, though I never got my hands on the second season, apparently… it was fun, though!

Sometimes I feel like I shouldn't even call this thing I started writing years ago a "story," because it is really a bunch of scenes in which two characters sit around and talk to each other. I don't even think I ever made it clear that he used to be a printer: it's one of those things I know about him (uh, like his parish church in seventeenth-century London) that never actually got written down anywhere. :)

I feel like I saw a lot more commercials for that show than for other things that are premiering! I guess they think they might be able to drum up an audience?
