Thanks for sharing, a really enjoyable lecture. The kind of thing I really miss from school. Learned some things, made me think about things I would have not given a second thought to.
We take for granted accurate atomic clocks and times down to picoseconds, being synchronized around the country or even the world.

Using references to hour glasses, Jacks etc. in modern literature might not be felt as much by the reader. We have to use modern technology to do the same. An example I like is in Death Cab for Cutie's song "What Sarah Said"

- As each descending peak
- On the LCD
- Took you a little farther away from me

Heart monitors, friends and dying... Wonder how little it would mean to someone in a few hundred years.

Curious question Tiffany posed about Puck “I’ll put a girdle round about the earth/In forty minutes.” Why forty and not fifty minutes.
One thought I had maybe because they still thought of the Four corners of the earth, so forty would seem a nice division. Might just be the math geek in me. What do you think?

I'm glad you were able to listen to it! (I actually haven't had a chance yet; I've been surprisingly busy lately.) I like your idea about being able to divide forty into four even parts, though - it's nicely symmetrical!
