My Granddaughter is very exicited to see David, even though his version of Peter Vincent is as total sleeze. In the original with Roddy McDowell- the actor was just more a has-been, who took money because he had lost his job and home--but he was not quite the "douchebag" as David's version called in the film.
They always say, especially decent, pleasant men and women are better at portraying sleezes than individuals who actually are.

I hadn't really seen David in anything before I started watching him as the Doctor: I'd seen him in a miniseries of Trollope's He Knew He Was Right, but I'd completely forgotten that he was in it until I saw it on PBS again later. So I didn't have any unfortunate associations, fortunately.

At first BBC America was a Season behind SyFy which is the station I watched the First Season of the New Who. So while they were promoting David on SYFY in Doctor Who, BBC America was showing Secret Smile. It was rather like watching Sir Michael Gambon as the randy Sir Billy in Godsford Park bedore he showed up as Dumblerdore in Harry Potter.
