SPRING!!

Phew! I was beginning to think it would never get here. But it has, it seems, finally arrived. I spent a couple of hours pottering around Foreness this afternoon, and although it was pretty breezy it was also a warm breeze. The first warm air outdoors I've felt for what must be months now. Ohhhhh!

All we have to show are woodpeckers of various kinds, bumblebees and mating butterfiles (we think Red Admirals or possibly Painted Ladies but they were quite high.)

Most likely Red Admirals since there is an overwintering adult population. Painted Ladies have to slog it up from North Africa so I wouldn't expect them to have arrived quite yet. But with wildlife, you never know...

I seem to have been living in another country for the past month. In Manchester, the daffodils are almost finished, the forsythia is in full flower, and the magnolia is just opening. But every time I left the city, my train was passing through snowy fields.

I can't say I've spotted the butterflies. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough.
