Cheap Books and Thoughts on Teaching

Re: the amazonfail, which I hadn't quite sworn I wouldn't post about but almost... Amazon kind of sucks in a lot of different ways. I really get that. However, it also makes books available which otherwise I could not buy because I am somewhat cheap, among other things, but mostly just don't have money for. It is convenient... but the whole thing made me think about various principles that I have and tend to more or less shove to the side when they're inconvenient. That's not how I want to behave, and I'm currently at a very good point in my life for setting principles to follow the rest of my life. So I won't order from Amazon anymore, as a way of starting that. I may still use them as a way to figure out what I want, though.

When you get back to campus in future semesters, don't give up on the CW program--there are plenty of really useful courses. If you really want to improve on your weaknesses, Pam Durban's revision course (it's listed as stylistics) is probably the single most useful class I've ever taken. It really forces you to look at what makes good prose, and how you can take your own writing to the next level.

Ah, not giving up on it. I am mostly interested in how I would teach creative writing, since I very well may end up doing that eventually. I tend to look at classes in general as a sort of learning ground not only for the material but also for teaching in general, particularly in areas I may end up teaching in.

Thanks for the recommendation! I will definitely look into her course when I get back.

I am receiving college-level instruction, of course, but the plan itself could be implemented for any age level. It's the principles.
