And now, with that one remark, the son of a bitch had even taken that from him.
Oh... *sniffle* Hadn't thought of it quite that way before. Poor, hurting Sawyer.

I've always hated Cooper for having said that because it would totally have tainted what memories Sawyer still had of his mother. Even if Cooper couldn't really remember her at all and just said he did (which wouldn't surprise me, and which I'd rather believe anyway), I'm sure it still led him to question it. Stupid Cooper.

But thanks for reading anyway!

This: And now, with that one remark, the son of a bitch had even taken that from him.

and this: He still didn't know that by believing that he could truly make a future for himself in Dharmaville, that he could be a different man to who he had been before, he was conning himself more than he'd ever conned anyone else in his life.

totally broke my heart. He didn't go back to 1976 because he didn't want to change things; he was happy as he was and he had no idea that things where going to change whether he wanted them to or not. It's just too, too sad.

But it was a lovely, poignant fic. ♥

Had it not been enough for this man to have stolen Sawyer's future with his family from him? Did he have to steal his past, too? Sawyer couldn't remember much about his mother, but the one thing he'd always hung on to his entire life was the fact that she'd loved him. And now, with that one remark, the son of a bitch had even taken that from him.

I love that passage; it's heartbreaking, so painful. The whole story is heartbreaking and you captured Sawyer's pain and doubt just beautifully. Thank you so much for this!

It was this storyline that had made me first love Sawyer, so it seemed the obvious plot for helping you love him again too! I've always hated Cooper for what he said in The Brig, because he would have totally caused Sawyer to question everything he remembered about his time with his mother. Glad you liked this one!
