toestastegood at Five Acts. When Olivia dreams of the day she killed the shapeshifter, she fears for Alt!Charlie.
She knew it couldn’t be true. Charlie was alive and well; she’d seen him only the day before, joking about that money he claimed he’d pay her back even though he’d been saying that for weeks. So why did that dream feel so real to Olivia?
Holding a gun to Charlie’s head, firing at him until he collapsed to the floor, silver bleeding from his body where blood should have been, and then Broyles saying something to her about whatever that thing had been, it hadn’t been Charlie...it couldn’t be real. It had to be some kind of hangover from Olivia’s breakdown. They’d told her she’d spent lots of time insisting that she was someone else; it had to be some kind of memory of that that was causing her to dream that Charlie was someone else too.
Yet it had felt so real that she’d actually called Lincoln just to see whether he’d heard from Charlie.
“Sure,” Lincoln had said. “He crashed with me last night after we had a late one. He’s snoring away on my couch as we speak.”
Relieved, Olivia had laughed, switched off her ear cuff. But it still played on her mind even as she made her way to Fringe Division.
“So, I hear someone missed me,” Charlie grinned as he walked in, but he didn’t get chance to finish his sentence, since Olivia had run up to him, pulled him close, ignoring the piercing whistle from Lincoln as she threw her arms around his neck and kissed him.
“Hey, when you two are finished eating each other’s faces off, Broyles wants to see us,” Lincoln said when at last they came up for air. But Olivia didn’t care. Charlie was there, he was alive, and in the moment that was what mattered.
