Question #10 telesilla May 17 2007, 22:21:56 UTC
Why do you need any rights to my work? Are you going to steal it to make money?

If you own or have any rights to the work you post, then we legally need a license from you to display it online. This license terminates as soon as you remove that work. (From the TOS, "The foregoing licenses granted by You terminate once You remove or delete a Submission from the Website.") This leaves us with very little incentive to invest in any product that contains your work, since you could simply remove your work from the site, which ends our license, then sue us. Not to mention, it would probably make it a lot harder to attract members if we gained a reputation for inappropriately exploiting their work.

Okay, here's the thing. Fanfic writers are smart. They, by definition, are very good at reading and writing, constructing meaning from words, and interpreting sub-text. So, I'm having a hard time figuring out why FanLib thinks that they can sneak some very fallible logic into their manifesto, and not expect writers (or readers - waves!) to figure out that there are some very potentially damaging and privacy-infringing aspects to this business prospect ( ... )
