US/Canada get together to infringe everyone's rights.

I was very dismayed to read this article.  Looks like I won't be taking any electronic devices with me when I travel overseas.  Call your congressmen, senators or if you're in the Great White North, whatever passes for congressmen and senators.

How do you prove ownership? DMA license? What about the places that are selling unlicensed songs legally? Are border agents psychic?

But I think that the worst part of this is the fact that agents can destroy your items without due process.

Do border agents have the right to search shipped merchandise? Sounds like before any out of the country travel I do, I'll be shipping my electronics separately.

As far as I can tell, this is entirely within Canada's legislative power, not the U.S. They're confiscating things entering/exiting their country. The U.S. Supreme Courts (as well as any US agency of any type) has no jusidiction in the matter. It's a dumb decision, to be sure, but we can only exert diplomatic pressure for them not to participate.

It generally means you shouldn't take your electronic devices with you when you travel to other countries (Canada isn't the only country buying into this).
