Trust me: even if they use a microwave, THEY FIND A WAY. The alarm invariably goes off. One dorm room set off the alarm at 3 am at least once a week for an entire semester before the rest of the dorm threatened them with bodily harm and they quit. What they were doing? Popcorn in a microwave. ALWAYS. BURNT.
When I went to Salem State (way back in Fall 92) my dorm room was on the 2nd floor, right next to the back alley with the dumpster. Thursdays were my one day with later classes. So naturally, the garbage truck came to empty that dumpster every Thursday morning between 6:30 and 7am. I feel your pain about the fire alarms. At least the crashing, clanging dumpster awakenings were on a schedule...
Cooking chicken at 3 am is just ridiculous! Have some consideration for your neighbors, people. Gawd! Like you said, they should just eat a bag of chips or a slice of leftover pizza.
