I haven't read very many, either, though I keep meaning to. It's just that as soon as I start reading a classic I start remembering books I would rather be reading. I think it is that classics take longer to get into, than, say, a novel by Sarah Dessen, or McKinley, or Pierce. Or TV shows.
No, I don't think "Guns, Germs and Steel" will be on my reread list anytime soon. I had to read it my... sophmore year, I think. Then we watched a few of the videos. What did I get from all that? Not much. Except that Europe had guns, germs and steel, and the American natives didn't. So they died. Also, apparently it is very hard to make steel swords.
I didn't mind "The Hobbit" so much. Probably because it is so much less... Tolkien-ish than LOTR. "The Hobbit", at least, is a littl lighter. Though I don't exactly remember what happens right now...
