[As Valentine's Day dawns, any warnings that Rydia had given Jilly about posts in the journal are completely forgotten. Still, she's not too eager to see what chaos the holiday has caused. She'd always thought it was a little pointless. Instead, she's decided to settle down with a book and a cup of coffee and wait for a more reasonable day ( Read more... )

[Months earlier, Jack had sworn to Buffy that, come Valentine's Day, he would be far from the village, hiding out in a treehouse...not daring to open his journal. Not risking the trap.

Conveniently, all this was forgotten when 14 February dawned and even more forgotten when he heard a voice over the journals that rang pleasantly in his ears. Jilly. Pretty little lamb.]

Oi--Jilly: how do they make money from romantic love, then? Sounds a bit below the law to me.

[Jack.

Hearing his voice would have made her smile anyway, but there was something especially perfect about it today.]

They sell all these different things... cards, decorations, candy. And then they try to make people feel guilty for not buying them for the people they care about. It's not very fair.

There are better ways to say "I love you" than pink cards.

[All the pirate wants to do is get a better look at the girl through the tiny image feature of the journal. Unhelpful.

Maddeningly unhelpful.]

What are the more better ways, then?

Chocolate comes to mind. [she's teasing, of course.]

But, really, why should you need to buy something to prove love. It seems kinda silly.

...I guess the day's not completely terrible, though.

It is a little weird! I wasn't expecting very many people to know what it was, but it looks like I was wrong about that. I don't know about any other holidays they have here, but if they have Valentine's Day maybe they have others...I wouldn't know which ones, though, if there are any!

Oh! I've had friends who lived in the south west, closer to that border, but I've never been.

I think most people are just eager to find a reason to celebrate~ [ AND WHAT BETTER HOLIDAY THAN ONE OF LOVE, REALLY? ]

[a laugh] Funny, I thought people sounded a little nervous, actually.

But...it's not so bad. [this is not true] Especially if you have someone to share it with.

Is that so? I'd hardly noticed. [ ...or rather noticed and chose not to acknowledge. ]

Aa. Having someone to share it with always helps.

[a pause. There's just a hint of hesitation...enough that she steps back from the idea of couples, turning the focus elsewhere] You've got your daughter, right? I'm sure she couldn't ask for a better Valentine?
