[Spoiler (click to open)]Jaejoong blinked into the darkness of his apartment, eyes adjusting to the sole lighting at the entrance door. He sighed, realizing that he was alone, again.
An empty house is like a gaping cavern, so quiet. I hated being alone in the house at night.
Jaejoong turned when he heard soft breathing and snores behind him. He almost pissed in his pants and screamed like a girl when he found Sungwoong’s face in front of his face. “What the hell -“ His heart beat faster as he noticed that Yunho was sleeping next to Sungwoong.
Like a family. Sleeping like this.
Jaejoong smiled when he saw Yunho and Sungwoong sleeping on the futon that Yunho might have hauled from his own house because he was occupying the only futon in the house. “Two idiots…” he breathed.
He took Yunho’s hand that was draped on Sungwoong into his, smiling softly as he stared at the sleeping face. “Yunho, just a little bit longer, stay with me.” He squeezed their hands together and continued his sleep with their hands joined.
Yunho smiled when he heard Jaejoong’s soft snores permeating the apartment.
“It’s your fucking fault!” Yunho screamed, his breath warm on Jaejoong’s scowling face. “I’m a kind of person who wakes up with an alarm clock! You’re the one who turned it off. Why are you mad at me?” Jaejoong screamed back in rage.
Yunho huffed. “Stop screaming! I’m the one who is sleep-deprived while you got to sleep peacefully!” Still screaming.
Jaejoong looked at Yunho with a bizarre face, wondering what was with his friend sprouting shits at him.
Yunho scratched his neck, hiding his blush. Truth to be told, he couldn’t sleep a wink when Jaejoong held his hand last night. But he wasn’t going to admit that. “Sorry.” Yunho turned, avoiding Jaejoong’s confused face.
Jaejoong was about to launch into another bitch fit and screamed Yunho’s ears off when the school’s nurse shouted at them.
“You two! I’m the one who’s angry here!” The school nursing teacher, Minwoo glared, forcefully separated the pair and stand in between them.
Yunho and Jaejoong scowled.
“I want to ask a bunch of questions before I took him, -” he pointed to the sleeping Sungwoong. “but classes have already started, so I will make do somehow. You better come here during lunch break though.” He sighed, flipping his long hair. Really, kids these days.
“Yes Sir!” the two mocked saluted the flamboyant nursing teacher.
Jaejoong looked at the teacher from head to toe, assessing the male. “But teacher, are you okay to take care of a baby? You’re a dude, I’m not really confident..” he trailed unsurely.
“Don’t underestimate me. Despite my appearance, I used to work in child care.” He said smugly.“Plus a host is a professional at caring for others.”
“A host?!” Cue another scream.
Minwoo passed them his name cards, listing his various jobs and responsibilities, albeit too proudly of his career as an ex-host.
“By the way, you two should go to the class.” He said as rummaging the baby’s bag. “Where’s the baby’s food?” he almost screeched, because a baby with no food is like a living hell.
Jaejoong paled. “I forgot - ”
Yunho shoved a small food container at his friend, mumbling about ‘I made it when you’re in shower this morning.’ Then, he shoved another bag of food container at Jaejoong, shrugging. “While I was at it, I made our lunches too.” Jaejoong blushed. Minwoo’s eyes sparkled.
“Cooking is one of the conditions of being a popular man! Why don’t you become a host? It’s important to have skills!” Minwoo leaned in to look closer at their lunch boxes, grinning. “You look like an honest man. You’d be perfect for it!” he leered at Yunho.
Jaejoong shivered, and pushed Yunho towards the door.
“Don’t recruit students, damn it! I leave Sungwoong in your care! Let’s go, Yunho. Or Sungwoong will wake up.” Jaejoong pushed Yunho out of the room and marched back to the school nurse.
“You’re too serious.” Minwoo shrugged.
“Shut up, ex-host!” he grunted, hoisting up Sungwoog higher back into his arms when the baby fussed.
Sungwoong, startled awake by the commotion, launched into a storm of tears and wails, noticing the lack of presence of one of his two favorite persons. Minwoo paled. ‘The nerve to cry in my holy room!’
Jaejoong rocked the infant softly, hand patting the disgruntled baby.
“Aside the host thing, he’s a good guy.”
“Huh? Who?”
“Yunho. He thought you would quit school to raise this baby since you have no one to rely on.” Minwoo poked the baby’s bottom, earning a loud squeak. “I heard he pretty much got down on his knees and begged on your behalf. I suppose being that passionate isn’t good for a host, right?” He grinned, hand stroking the dozing baby. “Better hand him over now that he’s quiet.”
“Yunho did wh-. For me?”
Shutting the door softly, Jaejoong leaned against the door, heaving a sigh. Eyes widened as he spotted Yunho a foot away from him. “Whoah! Why are you still here? I bet you’re worried that I got recruited as a host, right?” He laughed awkwardly.
“Yeah, I was worried you might actually become one.” Yunho actually looked concerned.
“Ouch! Hey, what -” Jaejoong squeezed Yunho’s arm with a little force that stung. “Jae?”
I can’t handle kindness.
“Um, I mean..” He stuttered, nervousness suddenly hit him from their close proximity, leaning his forehead on Yunho’s chest. “Thanks for everything. Sorry about yesterday, I went too far and.. That’s all!” Realization hit him and he pushed himself away, laughing awkwardly again.
Yunho pulled Jaejoong into his arms and kissed the boy chastely on the lips. Jaejoong pushed his chest, released himself from the kiss with a gasp of breath.
“Yunho!” Jaejoong gasped. “Class! We have to go quick -”
Stop it. If you act any nicer to me, I’ll get scared of the time when you’ll disappear from my life. If this goes on like this..
Jaejoong shoved Yunho’s arms away from his waist. “Don’t get friendly all of the sudden. Be more like the usual.”
“I don’t want to.”
Yunho got the nerve to smirk at him. “Huh? What the hell? I’m begging you here, so don’t just flat out refuse!”
“Excuse me? You never listened to things I asked before either! And you weren’t begging, you were ordering!” Yunho pulled him near. “I’m going to do whatever I want. Even if you don’t like it, I’m not leaving you.” Yunho sighed, pressing his forehead softly to Jaejoong’s. “It’s normal for us, right?” He grinned.
“Shit head.” Jaejoong mumbled and blushed crimson.
-Lunch Time-
Minwoo sat next to Changmin who was having his usual lunch break with him. Changmin was actually a relative. Both of them were glaring at both Yunho and Jaejoong who occupied the sole bed in the nurse room.
“Hey, you didn’t do anything to your hair?” Yunho fiddled with Jaejoong’s hair who was feeding Sungwoong his bottle milk.
Jaejoong glanced at Yunho who had his head propped on his elbow. “I have Sungwoong. I don’t have time to deal with my hair.”
“This is better. It’s not all stiff when I touch it.” He grinned, fingers still fiddling with Jaejoong’s hair.
Jaejoong blushed slightly. He dumped the already fed baby on Yunho’s stomach, earning a curse and groan from the said boy.
“I’m gonna eat my lunch too.” Jaejoong gobbled down his lunch in hurry, ears suspiciously red.
“How’s it?”
“It’s good.”
Minwoo’s face blanched at the two boys behind his desk. “Are they together?” Perfectly-plucked eyebrows raised at his nephew, expecting a response.
“I guess. It’s sickening though, looking at them.” Changmin shrugged and breathed down his own lunch again. “But Yunho denied it, so they probably aren’t.” he mumbled.
Minwoo frowned at the mess his nephew made on his desk. “You asked him?”
“It’s hard to believe that Jaejoong, the womanizer would swing that way, although his face said otherwise.”
“Really? But it looks so..” Minwoo shuddered looking at the pair with the giggling baby.
The door slid open, revealing a group of girls looking extremely high on sugar and dossed themselves with sparkles. “Jaejoong~” “We come to see your baby~” “Let me hold him.”
“Even those girls can’t butt in that kind of atmosphere.” Changmin mumbled whilst chewing on the snacks the teacher offered earlier.
Jaejoong ears perked up at the amount of attention the baby gained, immediately sprang up and rushed to the mob of girls. “Sure. You can hold him all you want.” He grinned. “Hold me too while you guys at it.”
“So your wife left and ran away with the baby huh?” He grinned, taking over Jaejoong’s previous place on the bed.
“It’s not like that.” Yunho frowned at the grinning teacher. “Hey teacher, you know about kids right?” Minwoo nodded, a little too smugly.
“What should you do to get an abandoned child to trust you? How to make him safe?” Yunho’s gaze fell blatantly on Jaejoong.
“Don’t ask me a hard question.” Frowning, Minwoo looked at the coddled baby. “Sungwoong is so young, he won’t remember much. Kids generally grow out of it. Realistically, there’s no right answer for something like that.”
“I see.” He suddenly smirked. “Jaejoong, I’m staying over at your place tonight.” He shouted across the room.
“Huh, why?” Jaejoong paled, squeezing Sungwoong to his chest.
“My futon is at your place. It’ll be a pain to move it over.”
Tonight, I won’t be alone as well.
Jaejoong masked his blushing face with a frown. “Do whatever you want, lazy ass!” he shouted back.
“Yup, I’ll do that.” He grinned.
Minwoo poked Yunho’s cheek, gaining full attention on him. “You weren’t asking about Sungwoong right?”
“He’s an idiot who doesn’t believe a thing I say.” Yunho smiled, his gaze averting to the boy with a baby. “So, if there’s no right way to make him feel safe, I’ll make it work in my own way.”
