I'm having a hard time deciding between "The Last Straw" and "Hypothetically Speaking". You choose. Or do both; I'm greedy.
It's funny; even though I beta review your work, I usually don't know what prompted it, whereas I'm always, or at least often, telling Ren about where mine came from, I guess because I want to share and see it as part of the writing process. I'm terrible at coming up with story ideas out of my own head; most - maybe all - of mine have come from external stimuli.
BTW, "Exposure" is based on a simple concept: the consequences of a naughty picture Shuichi sends to Eiri getting loose on the internet, and I milked it for 27,500 words, so don't feel bad about "Say Cheese".

(Sorry for the belated reply)
I can do both just fine, it's not like I’ve gotten a whole lot of response to this post, so I don't mind if you want to be greedy. Hell, if there are any others you'd like to know about, feel free to ask (just don‘t expect an immediate answer).
It's true; I guess I don't really talk much about the origin of my stories. One of the reasons I decided to do this meme is because I haven't talked much about my stories, and I thought it might be fun. It's not that I'm trying to be mysterious, or keep it a secret, I just don't know how to open up a line of dialog about my fics.
A lot of the time I can't bring up what prompted the fic before you've read it because it would give away the ending or punchline. Like in the case of Forget Something. I wrote that mostly because I wanted bastard!Yuki to spend the night on his own couch. After all, I'd read plenty of stories where Shuichi had to spend the night on the sofa 'cause Eiri was being a pissy bitch (hell, even Murakami played with this trope in the remixes

Anyway...
I'll have to admit that when I see something that is overdone I sometimes want to take a crack at it to see if I can come up with something new or fresh to add to a tired concept. I think I have already told you that I had seen a lot of 'Eiri quits smoking' fics (perhaps you remember my bad!fic parody?) and had gotten a little tired of them. Sometimes they were good, sometimes they weren't. It usually depended on the skills of the author, but I did notice a frightening amount of similarities between them.
The most common of which was that is that in almost all of them Eiri quits at Shuichi's behest.
Now I really don’t think Eiri would quit. It just isn’t going to happen. Not until it gets very cold in a very hot place full of bad people. But it gave me the wonderful opportunity to think of a reason whyEiri would give up smoking of his own accord

As for Hypothetically Speaking (Hmn… this one also begins with a post-coital conversation between Eiri and Shuichi, was there a theme in your choices
