Job interview, difficult decisions.

There is a third answer, potentially (i.e. alternate to "they don't pick you" or "you turn it down"). They could be open to job sharing, where you only work for a year, and then pass the position along to someone else. Bear that in mind if it comes down to discussing terms of employment. (Frankly if they're only offering two years then they can't expect people to leap at their terms, and someone else would likely really appreciate a year's job experience.)

That's doubtful. It's a government contract, and the folks who decide on the financing here are quite uptight. I've been working under that type of contract before. Every single detail was determined two years prior to the recruitment, and it was unmovable as concrete. I doubt this will be different. I'm afraid that there won't be any term to discuss. :\

They're hoping that, after the two years, the person/people they choose will pass the exams to get a permanent position within the council. That's what they told me during the interview, and what I know from previous experience.
