Okay, that probably didn't do a lot to advance the state of American political debate. I apologize and will make up for it with two actual criticisms:
a) The country's already bankrupt. We can't afford another unsustainable entitlement. The CBO numbers were waterboarded mercilessly to hide that fact, but there can't be anyone who believes with a straight face this is paid for.
b) The more the government is paying for people's health care, the more license that is for additional nanny state policies. Suddenly what you eat, what you drive, and who you have sex with is my business, because it's costing taxpayer money.
a) Do you have anything other than conjecture to back up your assertion that the CBO numbers are inaccurate?
b) I don't see that happening in England, France, Germany, Japan, or just about every other "Western" nation that has government health care. Last time I checked, you could eat what you wanted, drive what you wanted, and [CENSORED] who you wanted in places like that. No "nanny state," nationalized health care, *and* they have longer life expectancies and lower infant mortality rates than we do by far. Oh, the horror!
I for one am tired of being ranked #37 in overall health care. Yes, we have the best medical technology in the world -- but it's no good if only millionaires can afford to take advantage of it.
Is this bill perfect? Of course not. But it's a start.
I am a conservative (note I did not say Republican!) but am withholding judgment until I see how this turns out. Like so many things, it could be a good idea in principle. It could be a trainwreck if poorly implemented.
