I do one-on-one tutoring and interpreting services. I charge $20 per hour. If someone wants a thirty minute session I usually charge $10. I don't change it based on commute time or cost of transportation, but I have a second job that I work. However if the ESL tutoring were my primary job I would probably have to charge a higher rate to include the cost of gas.

If you tried to explain to your client that even twenty minutes requires the same amount of preparation work do you think she would be understanding? Could you both meet in the middle? Maybe charge $9.00 per twenty minute session.
