The Contingency Plan

Quick update, as I'm on s00's PC upstairs, rather than Oz downstairs. The reason for this is that that Mali dog chewed through the phone cable last night, so Oz is currently offline until I swap systems around 'n stuff. Although I think I'd prefer to keep the PC downstairs, so that realistically means a new phone cable. Ah well.

Through the phone cable?! Eep! I'm surprised he didn't get a shock from it. Way too fond of using his teeth, that one. Perhaps he sees the PC as a competitor for your attention?

Hope you manage to get it sorted soon, m'dear - looks like your DIY job for the weekend has been decided for you. *hugs*

Phone cable's pretty low voltage - and he didn't sever it, just frayed it enough to break the connection. I don't actually think he meant to, either - it runs along the wall, and he was chewing one of his toys pressed against said.

You are allowed to use my PC you know, I did in fact ask you to do that so it didn't go unused for 3 months.

Mali is a very chewy dog, and also very good at picking items to chew that will annoy you the most.

*misses my dog*

The PC has, indeed, been used - it's got the DVD burner, after all!

Mali's selective chewing is, at times, quite spectacular.

Chewed THROUGH? Couldn't he, you know, hurt himself? :o

Nah, not on phone cable - it's really low voltage. Electric cable, yeah, would fry him, but it wasn't intentional, and, in general, he seems to know well enough to stay away from cables.

Sandi used to chew electrical cords too - like the power cord for my laptop.

grrrr

I'm not quite sure if she's stopped completely, but I haven't found any evidence in the last couple of years.

I wish someone would make some sort of "cord covers" for situations like this. Somewhere in my travels I remember seeing a photo of an injury to a cat after having chewed completely through an electrical cord. It wasn't pretty and made me want to find a way to live without anything electrical at all for quite a while.

Yeah - cehwing through electric cables would be nasty - but, as above, this was the phone cable, which is much, much lower voltage, so had less risk attached.

Also, Mali wasn't actually trying to chew the cable, as far as I can ascertain - it was just unfortunate that his chew toy had landed against the wall, on top of said.

Well, in that case, the Mali-dog was completely justified in her chew-fest.

After all, anything a toy touches becomes, as a matter of course, a toy as well!

Silly humans must learn these universal constants.
