I can make some enquiries that will get you a food fund and a bunch to camp with. Transport is the real hassle; we can offer crash space in Canberra for a night each side of Easter, since we're not Festivaling at all this year, but I would worry about anyone driving even half that distance alone.

I can make canberra in a day, alone. That's the far limit of my daily range though, and it took 3 years of yass festivals (and a couple of dance weekends) to work up to. And to do the optimal drive for me (creature of the night), it means I leave at midday and arrive after dinner, which is only moderately unsocial. Yass is a lot easier - that hwy from yass to canberra is not pleasant at night, one lane each way and crazies doing 140 and overtaking me on blind hills. Not my favoured way to end a day's driving ( ... )

I guess I'm saying I'm looking for community. I've gone from camping with a group where I'd know all but the newest guest, and have camped with most people before and know the camping style. (transition to period - trying out medieval stuff, but not worrying that we aren't there yet, and not letting sleeping in a dome tent stop us doing period open fire cooking, etc)

Now I'm adrift. I know lots of people in arrowsreach, but I'm not looking for that camping style. The other camps from melbourne are households by invite only, and I suspect already have more people than they know what to do with this year. And I have people who can call me by name scattered all across lochac, but one here, one there, but I don't know who they camp with, how they camp.

I guess I mostly needed a good whinge about that.

Re: the catered kitchen option.

Last time I went to Festival (last year at Yass) I did meals with Crispin's kitchen, we all sort of ended up eating at the same time every day, so you saw the same people. I got to meet some people I never would have otherwise (except for on the Lochac list where it was just a disembodied name), so I enjoyed the social aspect of it.

I can only make it for the weekend at Suth Moot, (I can't stray too far from the lab, since my plant-babies will need watering), so if you want a 6(?) person dome-tent that you can put up better than me, you are welcome to borrow it. (Assuming it hasn't gone mouldy or something while I wasn't looking.)

I guess that's an advantage. Although I meet a lot of people in craft classes and guild meetings, so I have lots of people who I'd love to chat more with, but never seem to catch up with.

In fact Yseults is sounding fairly attractive, and quite cheaply priced for what you get. I might have to order double servings for some dinners, but lack of breakfasts should make up for it. I'd prefer if I'd heard a review of her food from a goumand though.

If I'm there early, it still leaves a gap I have to cater for though, but most meal plans do.

I'll have you know I'm on a seafood diet!
I see food. I eat, :-p

(I have no idea about Yseults cooking, so I can only really comment on the socialisation I got from Crispin's kitchen.)

Arrowsreach: Antithesis of aiming to camp periodly?

(yes I know, I don't have the period camping big bits of furniture yet, like tent or contributions to cooking equipement, but I do have a growing collection of the smaller acessories - bits and bobs like cooking utensils, lamps, ewer and pitcher, a bed, etc, and I'm working on the rest, and I'd prefer not to be stared at for thinking this is a good thing)

I know in reality Arrowsreach is probably the easiest option to go with, but I'm hoping someone else has a magic wand to wave for me, and there is a group out there that camps "transition to periodness" that has people in it I know that I don't know I camp there. I know lots of people a little bit.

It's a let down after having exactly what I wanted last year (including oh so yummy food*).

*Krae Glas still has the highest concentration of best cooks in Lochac - I challenge anyone to beat our cooling talent level per capita.

Good news, Sorted out my employment status today, and they are pretty casual about which days I take off, (and I have work till May) so I can travel up on wednesday day/tuesday evening, or maybe even tuesday day if I stretch things a little.
