I've been to Youth Traditional Song Weekend, and enjoyed it very much. Now I see what people were making a fuss about. I feel revived. It was a big deal for me: to sit and sing for hours on end with a big group of people, everybody bringing something different and important, and barely ever repeating a song. I like Frank Proffitt--I have the Warner collection, and a couple of the ones he sings are favorites ("Hangman" and "Single Girl")

They're great! I don't know what are my favorite songs he does. "Hard Times on the Beaver Dam Road" maybe, but then again I love his "Bonny George [or James?] Campbell."

How did it feel being one of the "older crowd" for a change? There were a few new voices (new to me at least) at Chantey Blast who were introduced as representing Youth Trad. A great trend!

It was both wonderful--because I was in a room with dozens of enthusiastic young people who all had something cool to bring to the table--and a little anxious or lonely for me, because I worry that they won't like/accept me, and wonder whether I fit in ( ... )

I am glad there WERE some peers--I was sort of worried that you'd be caught between two worlds, as it were. I am really happy to hear that there were such wonderful--and new!--people there. I hear the insecurity talking, but it's not without grounds. . .it's always hard to know what others think of one, after all.

I am certain that they are in awe of your wide knowledge of traditional ballads, of your memory, and of your ability to hold an audience.
