Four years ago today...

...I was sitting in a vault under the center of Edinburgh, listening to a tour guide tell us all about how Burke and Hare killed their victims.  There were about twenty other tourists sitting around the dank and gloomy cellar.  Our guide was a pretty woman in her forties, with the most...arresting...public-speaking style.  ( The trip, and some conclusions... )

They were the closest I think I'll ever come to Bacchantes---it sounds exactly like what they were. Very cool. You danced with Bacchantes.

Wow, that last goal for the coming year is a doozy.

It sure is. I mean, it's daunting me. The more I talk about it, I hope, the less of a doozy it will seem.

The only mime routine I'm good at is the shrinking glass box...

True, I do want to see Israel and Rome and Vienna and Prague and Tokyo. English-speaking countries are just first on my list. My second language is Latin, of which I've forgotten most, so I don't really trust myself with languages. But between a phrasebook and a lot of foreigners knowing some English, it wouldn't be all that hard.

I don't know about those cities, but we didn't need any French in Paris. I was a little disappointed, but not really. :)

Wow, I hope it's still like that when I get there!

I hear that everywhere in Japan, you can get along without any Japanese because most people want to practice their English. Don't know the firsthand truth of the matter, though.
