We have been getting a ton of spam comments recently, and it's mostly hidden from you as we automatically screen comments with links. No lie, on the oldest prompt post I had to delete 70 Viagra comments, and it was obviously a bot as they were all timechecked within two minutes of each other. The phone number one sounds dubious and you should take it down! You don't know what sort of nut it may be just angling at the safety angle. I suppose if you take all these things down they might ignore the site in the future.

Oh, I definitely took it down, but not before someone commented on it. I'm not sure they'll ignore it, either, heh. Our community's social capital rating and our standing in the general community rating, well. I'm not too sure what it does, but since they've started this system for communities we've been getting a lot more spam.

For personal journals you can opt in or out of this feature, but it seems like that isn't an option for communities.

Butting in: you should be able to turn of ratings in the Privacy settings tab (which is impossible to get into if you start at community settings, but if you go to it from a personal journal it's as simple as switching users once there); the direct link is, lemme just add in this comm's username: http://www.livejournal.com/manage/settings/?authas=teenwolfkink&cat=privacy

Of course this doesn't help with the social capital thing, which I just don't get (WTF lj, just, WTF), but it doesn't hurt to try. It might not help remove the comm from any ratings-related shenanigans lj has going but you can choose to make it get less site-wide exposure if you think that'd help (and if those settings aren't set already).

ETA: Could you tell me where to go about asking for mutual affiliation? I think I tried someplace already but haven't gotten a reply yet.

Does your meme's settings allows it to be found via search on LJ? If so, that might be why you are getting so much spam compared to every other kink memes I know, including the very active one I run. Turning that off might help your problem or at least lighten your moderating load.
