How very strange. I think it strikes me pretty close to the way it strikes you. (My maternal grandmother was a live-in maid when she had to escape a bad marriage and support herself while her children lived with their grandparents.)
It's more jarring to me than the ice cream cart, but I kind of wonder about that one too, mainly because the people I see pushing those kinds of carts in the summer are also immigrants, who are struggling and scraping to make a better life.
My son would absolutely love it. :/ He's fascinated with watching any cleaning in the house or at school. He commandeered our Dustbuster and Swiffer mop. Brooms delight him. He loves wiping down tables or glass. He would totally tool that cart around the house and throw trash and laundry into the bin.
I guess I have the weird kid. : / I wouldn't spend $150 for something like that, when he likes the real life version.
I don't see the set as a choice of profession though, like the doctor kit. It's just a set of toys.
Then again, in addition to being a full-time student for yet another degree, I have a pole in my living room to practice my pole dancing routine. (I take classes on the weekend as my workout, I am not a pro!) so I am probably the wrong person to comment!
It's interesting because some see the cart as just a toy but others see messaging in the toy itself. I know that it would bother me to see my amazing daughter playing lets pretend to be the hotel maid.
As for the pole dancing...remember I said, instead of college! :-)
