This is both a test of LiveJournal<->Dreamwidth simulcasting and an update.  I seem to be doing the update thing about once per month, thereabouts.

I entered one contest (predicting tourism) and didn't do all that well (user name bramboro), but I've never had any formal training in the field. Took me a little time just getting my GDL (shareware version of IDL) and unix command line to produce the csv files in the proper format. I did a little Fourier filtering to find some trends... I'd be very interested in learning more, definitely! I will check out that book.
