Oh, wow! This is so fantastic! I had no idea what you were going to do, and for some reason I never even guess that it would be this story, but wow. What a delightful surprise. I love the way you weave Sam's memories into it, and all those things the shapeshifter said that must've been echoing in his mind constantly. And the soft, quiet intimacy between them is so lovely, changing their relationship but not really changing it at all. Wonderful.
