Or if you go to a doctor bleeding, they tell you to lose weight before looking at anything else.

It is the new panacea - if everyone loses weight the world will be perfect. And of course if you are not to "their" specifications it must mean that you are lazy and stupid.

I like this one. A lot. I'm grabbing it for my journal, and trying to avoid sending the author a dozen long-stemmed bobble-headed aliens for the sentence "Mental illness robs you of your right to be a weirdo."

You don't even have to be fat for them to tell you you're fat and need to lose weight. When I was 37, I weighed 87 pounds and went to the doctor for syncope. He told me if I lost weight, the problem would clear up and put me on an 800 calorie a day diet (which I promptly ignored). Turns out I was pregnant.

Oddly enough, since I've gained weight (now at 160 pounds and I think I'll stay here), no one's told me I'm fat.
