[About 15 minutes later, Fritz will be curiously approaching the garage, and looking at the laptop with interest.]

[The laptop is currently playing some awesome dancy rock tunes. There's an enormously tall blonde guy working in the garage and humming along. He waves when he sees you.]

Hey there! You the guy I talked to? Never got your name. I'm Quinn, nice to meet ya! [Handshake?]

Swords are lame.

You know what you should really make? Magic rods. If you do it right, anyone can pick them up and cast magic with 'em.

Like magic wands? Ya mean ya actually use those? I've heard of it in my world, but it's kinda antiquated. 'Fraid to say it, but I don't know much about 'em. And in Mayfield, I don't have anyone in my family to ask about them.

Not wands. Staves and rods. What kind of mage uses a wand? It's alright. You can just ask me! The one I've got right now makes mana arrows.

Staves, huh? Well makin' those from steel would be heavy... maybe I'll use some of this chrome, though I don't know if that'd be much better. Bring 'em by sometime, I'll see what I can do!

I can help you design them, if you give me a model to work off of. If you're willing to do the forging yourself then I won't bother with that part.

Yeah? Well I guess I gotta see what we can find in town first. This is all new to me, but I'm a quick learner! I haven't found anyone who has any yet, just a lotta people who want 'em.

As long as I have a base I can make you a stable design. Broadsword, shortsword, longsword - I can make you a fresh design if I have a base of what you exactly want.

I hate to admit it, but I am way outta my comfort zone here with this kinda stuff. But without computers in this town, I figured I can pick up another specialty. But I gotta work from the group up. Maybe I should take some orders, see what people want, and go from there. We got plenty of steel so this should be no problem!

I can't help you with swords in particular, but if you could make clank parts for me, I can start designing something that will work -properly- to defend us.

Clank parts? Can ya be more specific?

Various machine parts, mostly the body casings for them to go in. If it's even vaguely possible, I can design one and show you what I'd need.

Bring over some plans, I'll see what I can do. I'm treadin' into new territory with this kinda stuff, as I'm more use to buildin' computers and music equipment. But hey, ain't nothin' wrong with expandin' your horizons, right?

Oh, hey there! Yeah man, I could use some tips. This is a whole new business for me. I've got a lot of steel and chrome from the cars. That should build somethin' nice, right?

Well, I've been using swords for years, and I know a good one when I see it. And I'm no blacksmith, but I can make a decent blade with the right materials...steel isn't much, though. [And he's got no idea what chrome is at all.] Orichalcum or damascus are usually the best you can get, if you know where to find them...but I haven't seen anything like that around here.

You're the second guy to say Orihalcon. or close enough to it. Where I'm from, that's stuff's fiction! Ya'll probably live in fantasy novels, I swear. [He chuckles. He met a guy who's from a movie, and another from a video game, so anything's possible.]

We just gotta make do. This might not be the best steel ever, but 50s cars are pretty tough little buggers. I'm sure we can build some cool stuff. So once I get some ideas for swords down on paper, I can run 'em past you, right?
