horizonssing Day 19: A bouquet.
“Everyone ready?” Gwen called from the top of the steps outside the front of the stately home where Gwen and Rhys’ - slightly more eventful than was healthy - wedding had taken place. Ianto pushed Tosh forward a little into the throng of girls looking pointedly sideways at Owen as he did it. Tosh reluctantly took a step forward as Gwen tossed the bouquet over her shoulder. It bounced between hands a couple of times before it practically fell into Tosh’s unexpected arms.
Jack gave a snort of laughter into his drink while Ianto dunted him in the ribs. All eyes were on a blushing Toshiko now as she tried to bury her embarrassment in amongst the flowers, a smattering of applause breaking out as Gwen beamed over the top of everyone’s heads at Tosh.
Ianto handed Tosh back her glass of champagne as everyone headed back inside. Jack stepped up beside Ianto, opening his mouth to say something.
“Not a word!” Tosh threatened, pointing a finger at him before she too was heading back into the main hall with the rest of the female guests. The bouquet swung in Tosh’s arm down by her side, catching the edge of her dress as she slipped back inside, Owen following at a safe distance.
“All I was going to ask was who was the lucky man?” Jack suggested innocently.
“I believe that was why she told you to shut up Jack.” Ianto observed as he sipped at his beer, stuffing a hand in his pocket as he started to walk back into the hall slowly in step with Jack.
“How come you weren’t in there with the best of them?” Jack asked cheekily, glancing sideways to gauge Ianto’s reaction. As usual, Ianto took it all in his stride.
“And who would make a bride of me?” Ianto asked, smiling himself.
“Well I think if things fall through with Gwen, Rhys would definitely have you.” Jack teased.
“Well I did enjoy trying on those wedding dresses for Gwen.” Ianto mused.
“What?” Jack’s eyes looked like they were going to pop out his head as he stopped mid-stride, turning to look at Ianto.
Ianto chuckled. “I think the shop assistant thought I was buying the wedding dress for myself.”
“You do look good in white.” Jack hinted as he waggled his eyebrows suggestively. “Although I personally think you look better in pink.”
Jack briefly ran his hand down Ianto’s tie, his knuckles pressing against Ianto’s stomach, not perfectly toned, but Jack loved him all the more for it before he was pulling away and heading back to their table.
Ianto watched Gwen and Rhys revolving on the dance floor, grinning at each other, pressing what they thought to be subtle kisses to each other’s lips. They looked so happy and content that Ianto got nostalgic for a moment.
“Always the bridesmaid, never the bride.” Ianto mumbled to himself before he headed over to the DJ booth.
