Ianto blinked in the morning sun as he emerged from the small farming shack. He moved a hand up to his brow to shield his eyes from the dawn rays of sunshine that cast shadows upon the terraced fields before he pulled his sunglasses down from his head to shield his eyes more effectively. He inhaled the smell of morning dew on grass as he tramped down the dirt track so he could see over the roof of the small house. He could see the landscape rising up behind it as he backed up a bit more trying to get the whole of the mountain in view, but it was impossible. It reached up into the sky, meeting with a cloud as shafts of light danced off the snow coloured peaks.

They had arrived in darkness the night before, unable to witness the breath taking scenery as they’d all stumbled into beds that were nothing more than mattresses on floors. Not even Owen had complained as he’d collapsed beside Ianto in an undignified heap, already snoring before his head hit the pillow. Ianto had been too tired to care himself, but he was awake now, taking in the glorious magnificence of the countryside around him. He could scarcely believe he was on the other side of the world from Wales in mountains he had only ever seen in books.

He let out a tired sigh though as he tramped down the first terrace, sitting himself down on the edge. He lent back on his hands looking up into the sky, watching where the mountains disappeared into the clouds. He could see shapes forming as the clouds elongated, shifting past the mountain. The colour of the sky was so familiar to him, like the warm depths of Jack’s blue eyes and he felt himself falling into the haze of it.

‘You know no one’s about.’

Ianto chuckled as he felt fingers trailing up the length of his arm, tickling at the soft hairs there. They ghosted across the back of his neck, cupping his right cheek so he tilted his head into it. His lips tingled and quivered as he felt the ghost of a kiss on his lips.

‘Just you, me and the world.’

Ianto let out a nostalgic sigh, closing his eyes slightly even though his sunglasses were keeping most of the morning sun out. If he squinted he could almost see the outline of Jack’s coat in the cloud that was just drifting away from the mountain.

“Just you, him and the universe.” Ianto whispered to no one in particular.

He was somewhat startled when a pair of feet appeared next to him. For a brief hysterical moment he thought it was Jack, but the boots were far too small and the body too petit and feminine to be Jack.

“I didn’t think you were a morning person.” Toshiko commented as she sat down beside him, close enough that their knees banged together.

“I’m not, but Owen snores.” Ianto admitted as he continued to watch the clouds frolicking above them like new born lambs. Tosh giggled as she lent back to watch the clouds too.

“I feel like I can see the whole world from up here.” Tosh commented a little breathlessly.

“You can,” Ianto pointed at a few small specks further down the hillside that looked like a herd of animals. “That’s Wales down there.” Ianto chuckled. Tosh soon joined him laughing as they both turned to find feet tramping towards them.

The farmer’s wife was stood a few feet from them and she said something in rapid Hindu, nodding and smiling which Ianto imitated before she retreated into the house.

“What did she say?” Tosh asked as Ianto turned his face back up to the sky.

“I have no idea. But I’m hoping it was something about breakfast, I’m starving.” Ianto joked, forgetting about the fact Jack was gone for the moment and he was miles from home searching for something they weren’t even sure existed. He watched where the sky met the land in it’s vastness, and he smiled.
