SUMMARY: Set after KKBB. Jack and Ianto's relationship is like a storm. Ianto's always counting between the thunder and lightening, waiting for the rain to pass.
“Ow! Son of a-“ Ianto exclaimed as he walked into - something. He couldn’t really tell what he had walked into since his front room was now pitch black due to the fact the power had gone out. A chuckle came out of the darkness towards him from the direction of the sofa.
“I don’t know what you’re laughing at! If the electricity’s gone out all through the city then that means it’s gone down at the hub as well. And you can be the one who cleans up when the Weevil’s get loose.” Ianto grumped as he continued to rub at his shin.
There was a flash of lightening that lit up the room through the half closed curtains and Ianto used the moment of illumination to make a mad dash for the bookcase, snatching at one of the candles before fumbling for a box next to it he knew contained a lighter. He flicked it a couple of times before it sparked into life, lighting the candle as there was a deafening rumble of thunder that seemed to shake the foundations of the house. What scared him more though was the fact Jack was now stood right beside him trying to peer out through the curtains and down the street.
“Jesus Jack! Are you trying to give me a heart attack!” Ianto reprimanded as he bent slightly to look at his shin. The skin was grazed and he could feel a bruise forming. He rubbed forcibly at it as Jack turned back from the window.
“Lights are on in the next street down. Just us got hit apparently.” Jack shrugged before following Ianto’s eye line down to his already bruising shin.
“Did the bad coffee table attack you?” Jack asked, lip jutting out slightly as he mocked Ianto innocently. Ianto’s only reply was to shove the candle at Jack’s chest so that hot wax sloshed over the side onto Jack’s hand that involuntarily grasped at it.
“Stay here, I’m going to go find some more candles.”
Ianto retreated out the front room, holding his lighter aloft, leaving Jack to try and pick the wax off his burning fingers.
Jack turned to stare back out the front window at the lashing rain, watching candles flickering at other windows in the street before there was another flash of light that lit up the entire sky. Jack started counting. He had barely got to two elephants before the thunder roared down the street.
“It’s right above us now.” Ianto’s voice came softly from behind Jack’s left shoulder. Jack glanced back to find Ianto had placed candles strategically around the front room, one on the bookshelf, one on bad coffee table, another one on top of the telly and one perched in the alcove that previously held a picture of Ianto’s family.
“Two elephants away.” Jack replied, smiling slightly as he turned back to face the street again. He watched the rain bouncing down the street with childish enthusiasm before Ianto was chuckling in his ear as his hands snaked around Jack’s sides, clasping on the front of Jack’s chest.
“You count in elephants?” Ianto questioned and Jack could almost hear the raised eyebrow.
“What else do you count between the thunder and the lightening?” Jack asked innocently as he placed the candle he had been holding down on the window ledge.
“Mississippi’s.” Ianto answered matter-of-factly as the lightening struck again.
“One Missi-“ The thunder rumbled over the end of Ianto’s Mississippi which caused Jack to laugh.
“How’s your shin?” Jack asked as they both continued to watch the rain. It was now pouring out from the gutter above Ianto’s front door, gushing onto the path in great torrents.
“I’ll survive.” Ianto replied, his breath tickling the hairs on Jack’s neck.
“At least it’ll clear the air, make things a bit cooler.” Jack commented as Ianto gave Jack a slight squeeze before removing his hands from Jack’s person. Jack shuddered at the sudden loss of contact, turning before Ianto was out of range, grabbing him by the wrists and pulling him back into his hold.
“Speaking of clearing the air. Are we-“ Jack fumbled for the right word.
“We’re ok Jack. Even after the disaster of the first date.” Ianto replied.
“I apologised for that. I didn’t mean to -“ Jack didn’t get a chance to finish his sentence before Ianto’s lips were pressed against his own in a passionate kiss.
“Shut up you idiot and come here before either you or the lights coming back on ruin the mood.” Ianto whispered so close to Jack’s own lips that they tingled. They both stumbled backwards towards the couch, hands pulling at pieces of clothing as Jack tried to toe off his socks. He lost his footing though and both of them fell over the coffee table.
“Son of a-“ Jack groaned as his back collided with the leg of the coffee table. Ianto chuckled.
“Did the bad coffee table attack you?” Ianto mocked. His words were met with a sharp glare that he lost sight of as Jack bent to kiss him again.
