Gah. Potential for IBM to buy out Sun

I'm somewhat less than happy with that prospect (Sorry to the IBM employees on my f-list). I wish I could put my finger on why, but I think it's mostly that the company cultures seem to be very different.

Big Blue may have a very bad habit of buying up competition, but for some reason this seems unlikely to me. If it goes ahead I'd be very surprised.

Yeah, there are all sorts of reasons to cast doubt, like there's no official source to any of the articles, but it's still enough to get the rumour mill going in work.

I'm just worried about what would happen to things like Solaris if it did go ahead. Some of the folks who've been around Sun longer reckon that rumours like this spring up all the time, so it might just be someone starting a rumour to push the share price up. Who knows?

I've actually heard this independent of this article around here too. Seems like 'owning' Java and the server market share is a bit of a draw.... *shrugs*
