You know, the world of open source is a cruel one. Sometimes I get ideas into my head thinking "ooh, this would be a cool idea" so I search for it and, serendipitously, I find something that would have been helpful to me before. So I look at it, and then find that no, it's only a pipe-dream, the name is out there but it is nothing but vaporware, ( Read more... )

Hmm... I guess usually open source projects host at the sourceforge site so do not have such problems.

Well, in one sense that's true, insofar that you will have a site for the project so long as sourceforge is alive. But other than that, the main problem is down to developer motivation. I mean, the project I'm thinking of has a project page on nongnu.org but has nothing checked into the cvs. That can be the case with a lot of sf projects - but then, that's just a problem with open source in general - if the developer team doesn't check anything in, there's nothing that can be done. *shrugs*

well.. I don't think there are many such projects, maybe only some tiny ones.
