I think it's Finn's new haircut. And Puck looks older. He's looking older than Will.
To me, it felt like they were setting things up for the new season but being remarkably awkward about it. Pretty much everything but Finn's storyline seemed point-formed so they could get four full songs in. Okay, almost four... 'cause Sunshine and Rachel didn't quite get to finish.
It felt off, but I can't put my finger on WHY. All your points, but there was something that was just odd about it.
Also, seriously, Artie? I spotted that one last season. He tries, but at the end of the day, he's still a teenage boy, and a pretty sorry boyfriend at times.
I was all, "Well, this show is showing definite signs of second season-itis." I hope you're right and it's just a setup for the new season!
I love the music, but I always felt it was an accent to what was going on. This time I felt that they forced the story to allow the songs-- not quite the same effect for me. :(

Yeah, I thought the two "audition" songs were defintiely shoe-horned in at the expense of plot. We've never heard an entire audition song before so I got a whole artificial "see, new characters can SING!" kind of vibe.
Rachel was kind of drastically unlikeable in this ep. Sigh. Also, the meta of the opening tag made me sort of raise an eyebrow. LET WILL RAP. RAP, WILL, RAP!
Could Will claim racial profiling if they don't let him rap? Are they saying he's too white to rap? Too light to rap? He should hold his head high and just not give a crap...

That ep felt... off to me.
Dog poop cookies? Oh Sue, you should have gone with Ex-Lax cookies. They are much harder to detect. *eg*

The bondage harness. WTF, Kurt?

In many ways, Artie is the most teenage of them all.

Artie really IS a teenage dude. They've really nailed that in his character.
Your icon makes me hope that this season we'll get a huge overblown love song between Santana and Brittany. I'm so happy they're regulars now!

Here's hoping they pull it out!
