cuckoo's egg, chapter ten

Longish chapter this time around! I don't like it quite as much as I liked chapter nine, but chapter ten does what's needed, more or less. And by 'does what's needed' I apparently mean 'runs around in introspective little circles'.

(chapter one)
(chapter two)
(chapter three)
(chapter four)
(chapter five)
(chapter six)
(chapter seven)

Oh wow, you can REALLY see Bran's tendency to panic. And Jeremy's excellence at being a sneaky bastard.

You know, I get the slight feeling that Bran has trouble with morality. Between the whole "gay" thing, the obsession over differentiating stealing from Ethan and stealing from everyone else, and the fury with Jeremy's "dirty trick"...just little bitty problem with it. ^_~

It was a really uncomfortable chapter to read, though--it practically itches to see Bran panicking like that. I just want to cuddle him, tell him to stop worrying so much, and get him some therapy. Maybe some family counseling, too. Though that would be interesting, what with the whole "family of professional thieves" thing.

Poor Bran -- I feel stressed out on his behalf!

I've just reread the SOTT series, and then I found this, yay! I'm really enjoying seeing things from Bran's POV. I feel like his parents should have reconsidered asking for him to be raised Catholic though, what with the whole 'don't steal' thing going on, let alone the complications of his sexuality. He seems to be the type of personality that hears something and if it's from someone he trusts, clings to it desperately, never thinking they didn't quite mean it that way, unable to deal with change particularly well and, as we see in later books and in this chapter, very very prone to panic. I feel a bit sorry for him really, which is fascinating, because while I didn't precisely dislike him in the series, he was able to take care of himself and so I never worried about him. Basically, I'm really enjoying this :D
