I found an unfamiliar text file when I was clearing out my temp folder, and it took me a minute to figure out where it came from: I'd originally planned to lead off November with this scene. It didn't seem quite right, though, and eventually November led off in a more conventional manner, and I left the scrap to molder in my temp folder until such

Yeah, it's stupid because Johnny would probably make an exception for Nate.
gosh, I love their banter.

Yes, this. Very much this. And Simon's "I mean, he only dates women, that I know of..." because why would he suspect all of the hooking up with Nate that's happening? He's too distracted by Jeremy to think about who else might be into guys (or one specific guy).
I invite you to join me in thinking this was mostly cut because it reads like a build up to Johnny admitting he's maybe sorta kinda got a thing for Nate and might not be the straightest thing on two legs, and canonically, that won't happen.

2)Takes exception to "ain't picky". Damn right, he's picky. Only one good enough for Johnny, or at least for something more than a one-night stand
3)"I was gonna say, I don't think that's really Johnny's thing," said Simon.
Johnny pitched a wad of coffee-soaked paper towels into the trashcan beside Rich's lair. "Nah."
Is he disagreeing with Simon, or with Mike? Is it or isn't it Johnny's thing?
In conclusion, I TOTALLY AGREE.

I take it back. Simon totally knows and finds the whole conversation asinine for that reason. He knows just how picky Johnny really is and that he dates only women because there's not another man he'd choose besides Nate.
I was confused by the 'Nah', too, and couldn't tell exactly what he was responding to. I'm starting to feel like Mooncalf is just screwing with us and it's time to admit there's a whole lot more going on with Nate and Johnny instead the nudge-nudge wink-wink "subtext". Can it even be subtext when it's being put there on purpose?
Edited to add: Also, notice who isn't in the room for the conversation? Sandra being gone is something I can understand because she really would probably kill Mike for being sexist, but where is Nate?
