Most of the time, Mac's job was fairly simple. Keep the cars running, keep the base working, monitor the security system. Not an awful lot happened to those three sections of the base operations; people were the problem, not the machines. And Mac would forever stick to that ( Read more... )

Ever since finding out he was some dormant mutant, Jesse had been kind of keeping to himself. It was a lot to deal with and at times just being around the mutant teammates just rubbed him wrong. Gone was the cheerful flirt young kid who used to give Ric or Roy a run for their money on the cheese-o-meter. Now he just felt angry all the time. So he did his work, stayed in his room, or made excuses to go off-base. And when Mac called, he either let it go to voicemail or kept it short ( ... )

Frankly, Mac had been willing to give the kid some space -she wasn't sure what it was if it had been the whole cuddles shit or if it had been something with Ethan or what, but if he wanted a bit of space, she'd give him it. If that meant they went back to flirting without serious intent then fine, but she was getting to the point where she was going to dick punch the little punk if he kept blowing her off.

Since she'd been put on Pyro-Babysitting since Jack took another shot at the kid, she hadn't exactly been loaded with free time anyway, but that didn't mean she was cool with Jesse giving her the brush off with no explanation.

Which made catching him in the hall pretty lucky all things considered. "Wow, the Scarlett Pimpernel lives, eh?" And maybe she was just a little pissed off.

Jesse sighed. "I don't even know what that means." And he didn't but he knew he had just been insulted. She was pissed. Honestly, he couldn't blame her but it didn't change anything.

He started to just walk past but he had to stop. Mutant or not, she deserved some sort of explanation. So he stopped. "Look... Look, I know I just kinda shut off but I've got some shit going on. It has nothing to do with you." Smooth, Jess. Real smooth.

Mac just stared. She was pretty sure that he was just going to walk away, almost certain actually. And fair enough, he might've had a shift, she had work to do, it wasn't like she had time to just stand and shoot the breeze.

But his comment left her stunned; sort of like that one time Ethan had body checked her with his powers online and active and she'd ended up on the mat dazed for a few minutes and winded. She stopped sparring with him after that. "I'm sorry, you- Wow, okay." It was almost as bad as the 'it's not you it's me' brush off.

"So what, now suddenly we don't talk about shit?"

To say that coming out of her room and finding a pair of legs in her line of vision was a surprise would be a massive understatement. Most of the time Alice was comforted by the lack of traffic in the halls; she could get from point A to point B without encountering people most of the time.

But an ass in her face was definitely not something she thought she'd see, regardless of the time of day. "Um, do you need some help?" Since she didn't know who or what was attached to said legs, it was probably that should could lend a hand or figure out just what the hell was going on.

Mac wasn't sure what frustrated her more, the fact that someone hacked her system, or the fact that her system could be hacked. She wasn't overly tech-savvy, not past the basics of her powers and abilities, but she made it her job to know the technology that was securing the base. And the system was meant to be foolproof and completely inaccessible.

"Actually, yeah, can you had me those scissors?" Going up and down and up and down was starting annoy her about as much as the system was, so passing up on one up and down trip was welcome.
