Come on, come on, get down with the sickness [ota]

It started a few days ago on her morning jog around the base. First, it was her head. The pain had been so great that she thought discharging some energy would make it stop. Unfortunately, it did nothing. Second was her chest. It started tightening on her morning visit (which was more sneaking through the window than visiting) to Spencer's room. ( Read more... )

Daken wasn't feeling one-hundred percent himself. The mere fact he had a cough and headache when that should have been physically impossible with his mutation told him a lot about his condition. But doing the smart thing and seeking treatment wasn't high on his priority list. Instead, he stood outside Jefferson Hall, smoking a cigarette, as if hoping the magic powers of nicotine would make his problem go away.

Seeing Haylie cross the grassy sparring area improved his mood immensely. He was still incredibly bitter over how she had used her powers against him. Despite how he felt physically at the moment, he wasn't letting this opportunity go to waste. Spitting out whatever phlegm had just come up from his last cough, he flicked his cigarette away. The feral strode over to her with a purpose, stopping in front of her and blocking the way.

"We really must stop running into each other this way." There was a wicked smirk on his face. Daken was a very good actor. Just by looking at him, it was impossible to guess anything was wrong.

To that Wade rolled his eyes. "Yeah yeah, whatever Grandpa. Go ahead and quit. 'This isn't the last we've seen of you'. We got it."

That cough must have been pretty bad for Daken to have backed out of a fight. Wade knew the mutant's blood and his heritage. There was no 'quitting' a fight or not being worth it. Not with that kid's ego. But he kept his swords to his sides and didn't turn his back until Daken was gone.

Having watched the fight as closely as she could in her current state, she'd been surprised to see Daken backing down because of a cough. Half-expecting a bloodbath, she wasn't going to complain about it ending as it did.

Instead, she managed to pull herself to her feet and temporarily ignore the shaking in her knees, the tightness in her chest, and the blurred vision, on top of a new symptom -- the lack of tingling in her limbs and sudden sense of cold. Which she might chalk up to the blood trickling down her leg from where Daken's claws reached her.

"I'd say thanks, but it doesn't seem like enough."

All sign of danger gone, Wade sheathed his swords and turned around to face Haylie, crossing his arms. He would probably normally joke and say he was disappointed that she went down and needed help so quickly, but he could see she wasn't on the up and up. It was a common occurrence...

"Nothing's ever good enough." Was the only sassy response. But he frowned. "What's the deal? You both look like you ate some fish and raw eggs."

"I-- I don't know. Somethin' doesn't--" Haylie groaned, settling a cold hand on Wade's bicep as she tried to stay standing.

"Feel right..." She said weakly, trailing off as her eyes rolled back into her head and she fell to the ground unconscious.

Had he not been in complete...wtf-ness, Wade might have caught Haylie. He blinked down at her, squatting down to her level and reaching out to poke her arm gently. "...I guess that means something isn't right either."

But if he thought about it, he wasn't feeling so good either. Wade put the thought to the back of his mind and reached out to tuck his arms under Haylie, scooping her up and heading for Dr. Chandler's Medical center.
