Laura was talented at many things and because of this, they needed her back at Team X. Wonderful. Except, this had come after a long stint of a life most would consider horrible. No one had taught Laura right from wrong so she'd entered into a life of prostitution along side of the occasional assassination she was hired for ( Read more... )

Well, shit, it musta been getting close to Christmas. Victor, of all people, recognised the sight - and scent - of Laura as she entered the base, and he couldn't help but allow himself a wicked grin as he watched her heading in the direction of the main building. He had enough history with her to allow himself to be smug; he'd tried hitting on her when she'd first arrived in the camp way back in Africa, and even discovering that they were related hadn't put a stop to that. Not that he had any intention to try that again right now, but it always pleased him to try and get a reaction out of her.

"Welcome back, Lil' Sis," he purred, falling into step beside her. "You miss me?"

She caught his scent before spotting him and considering how things had gone in Africa, her reaction should have been one of fear, worry. Something along those lines. The girl didn't even blink. She glanced at him a moment and, in that monotone she had when she originally started with the team, she spoke.

"Victor." As for missing him? She didn't answer that directly. "Missing someone implies an emotional attachment of some kind. I did not care."

Now, that was unusual. Victor had expected at least some kind of cutting comment, or a gesture that indicated Laura still had that animosity towards him; an extended claw, a look of distaste, even a slight shift in her stance which indicated she was readying to fight him if he said anything derogatory. He hadn't expected her to return to the team acting like some kind of goddamn robot.

"What the hell happened to you?" he asked, disappointed not to draw some kind of reaction from her. "Did your original get killed an' now we gotta put up with the LauraBot 2000?"

Damn, but with her emotions as flat as this, she just wasn't as much fun.

Nope. Sorry. Laura was currently void of emotions. She had a job to do. She sniffed the air slightly, tilting her head again. "Emma has returned." Not that she didn't know that. She'd been informed.

What had her confused was the fact that Emma's scent wasn't on Victor as drastically as it had been before. That was filed away, a shift in dynamics.

"I am still the same X23. They only made one."

Deep in thought as he left the main building, her scent hit him like a hammer, and for a while, Logan didn't even know what to say, just staring at her. It was a shock. A good shock, but still a shock. God, he'd barely realized how much he'd missed her until now, telling himself it was fine and she could take care of herself until he began to believe it - and it was true, but it was still damn good to have her back. He had enough insanity in his life. His brother, and now his son... He needed some balance, and his sister/daughter/whatever was just what the doctor had ordered.

"You're back," was what finally came out. Surprise and something like relief were both evident in his voice, much more of a message than the incredibly obvious statement itself.

She didn't even look. Usually, she would have. There would have even been a small smile and possibly an attempt at a hug. Instead, she kept her eyes on the main building and simply nodded.

"I am." She turned to look at Logan again. "What has changed since I left?" This was an important question, after all.

Something was... off. That much was easy to determine, but what it was exactly, that was difficult to put a finger on. For now, Logan tried to play along. For a while. "Some new people. Stricter rules... Set meal times." That about summed it up. Except for the really big stuff, but he wasn't ready to tell that yet.

Since she wasn't going to look at him, he got in her line of view and locked eyes with her. "Where were you?"
