It had been somewhere around about 2am when Spencer's train had finally reached Washington, and then it had been a further hour and twenty minutes on a bus to Lincoln City before he was greeted, albeit stoically, by a member of the army. After so many hours travel and so many hours in cramped, confined space, Spencer just allowed himself to be herded into a car and driven the rest of the way.
Sleep in the back of a car was never as fulfilling as sleep almost anywhere else, and he didn't really get that rested feeling that was desperately craved from a good nights rest. Not that he'd had many of those in such a long time. As usual, time shifted in a distorted manner and what really was an hour felt like just ten minutes. It's not nearly enough to make him even slightly coherent.
When Spencer practically falls out of the car on the base, it's almost four thirty in the morning and he's got just over two hours before he's expected to meet with some woman after breakfast. Spencer isn't looking forward to it. So, instead of sleeping, because there's no way he'll be up in that amount of time, he just unpacks, wires out his laptop and searches through as many sites as he can find using the search term 'government conspiracy mutant'.
Shockingly, he spends the next two and a half hours elbow deep in theories.
It means, when he eventually ventures out to get coffee, going to the mess for breakfast before his meeting, he's slightly more coherent than previously. Although not entirely.
