It was about damn time. Finally the cigars Logan had ordered in with the food supplies had arrived. He'd hoped to get some during his leave, but what with the Yakuza shit, that had been cancelled indefinitely. Probably for the best. Logan wasn't that eager to go into town with Victor anymore ( Read more... )

Finding him wasn't easy and when she finally did, she almost turned around. He'd gone out of his way to try and be alone. He wouldn't be happy about an intrusion especially not from her.

Still, they needed to talk and sooner was better than later.

"Logan?" She said softly when she was close enough for him to hear. "Can we talk for a minute?"

Of course a little peace and quiet was too much to hope for... He opened one eye to look at Angel, not particularly angry, but certainly not inviting. It wasn't that he held anything against her; what had happened wasn't her fault. Hell, he almost liked her. Almost. Was Victor right? Was that why'd gotten so -... Nah, couldn't be.

He sighed, shifted, opened his other eye too. Not like he could avoid this; she was already here. And he was too tired to argue with her now. "Yeah."

"Thanks" She said softly as she took a seat next to him on the ground.

"Victor is going to be okay. I'm sure you knew that. That's why you didn't check but it can't hurt to hear it." She started but stopped for a minute in awkward silence.

Angel chewed her lip hoping he would say something first but he was a lot better at the quiet game and she was too nervous to sit in silence. "I was mad at you. I was scared by what I saw. I had every intention of stomping my feet and giving you a piece of my mind but it took so long to find you that I had a chance to think. I know that was mostly about you and Victor and I'm not going to butt in. I promise. But I think that a little part of it was about me. I do appreciate it. I do but I'm not the baby you think I am and... if we're going to be on the same team, work together, then I need to know that you aren't just ready to defend me but that you respect me."

He just nodded when she said Victor would be OK. It was a sweet thing for her to say, even if Logan had known he would be. Logan just... didn't know what to think about that. It wasn't that he wanted Victor dead - not at all. But this - the two of them fighting - it never changed anything. It was just a matter of time before it happened again, because neither of them was going to change. That was pretty hopeless, and Logan didn't know how to deal with it.

"It ain't that," he said when she accused him of not respecting her. Maybe 'respect' was a big word, but he knew that she could handle herself. Hell, apparently she'd handled Victor before already. But there was more to it than that. He looked at the ground in front of him. It was easier not to look at her, trying to figure out how to explain. The problem was, he barely knew what the real problem was himself - just bits and pieces of it. "He's my brother. He's -.... my responsiblity." That was definitely a large piece of the puzzle, even if the logic of it left something to be

Great. Just fucking great. It wasn't even that Logan hated Delta for what had happened, but he didn't exactly like her, and he was in a shitty mood.

"No," he said, bluntly, before putting his cigar back in his mouth, and looking at the ocean again.

He didn't say anything in reply, just exhaled smoke through his nose as he looked away. When she left, he glanced at her surreptitiously. That was a big improvement on her behavior the last time he'd seen her. Maybe she'd learned her lesson after all. Her apology, even if it hadn't been spoken, was accepted. As far as Logan was concerned, there was no ill blood between them anymore.

Katie had slunk off to find somewhere to be alone in her usual manner, holding two small handguns and several rags, obviously intent on cleaning them. She clearly wasn't paying much attention to her surroundings, as when the sharp smell of cigar smoke hit her nose, her head jerked up, eyes wide in surprise.

"Hi, Logan," she said blankly, cautious after what she had heard about the whole date fiasco. Why did she feel like it was some screwed up family drama? Looking at him for a long moment, she eventually sat down on the ground several yards away from him. He was so sulky, she doubted he would snarl at her like he usually did. Quickly taking apart a handgun, she frowned as she was absorbed in her work.

Looking at her, he gave her a barely noticeable nod, which was as much of a greeting as she could expect from him. Pretty damn polite, really, considering the way he was feeling. He smoked in silence, watching her taking apart the gun to clean it.

Katie cleaned the gun almost reverently, pale fingers touching the metal delicately as she was lost in her work. Eventually, the hair on her neck prickled as she became aware enough to feel Logan watching her. She sneaked several glances from under the hair that fell in front of her face, still sprawled lazily on the ground.

She opened her mouth to speak several times, then thought better of it, keeping silent. She wanted to question him about what, exactly, he was doing with their- his?- team, but Logan's affairs were Logan's affairs, and Victor had long ago scared her of being overly forward.

Unfortunately, the way Logan was right now, he probably wasn't encouraging anyone to be open. Katie's intention to say something didn't go unnoticed, and Logan got a little irritated as she kept closing her mouth again, not having the guts to speak up. He figured it was something to do with his fighting Victor, which didn't help to improve his mood.

"You got somethin' to say, say it."

Gloria had followed the smell of the smoke to where Logan was. She'd heard about the fight during the whole date fiasco though she hadn't said anything to Victor it had pissed her off. She sat down next to her friend and held out her bottle of whiskey looking over at him.

He looked at her a second before taking the bottle, downing a good amount before he gave it back. He hadn't even thought much about how the fight had affected Gloria - she'd decided to fuck Victor, this was pretty much what she could've expected - but now it felt right, sitting here together, being pissed off, sad... either, both. After a moment's hesitation - just because she didn't know if she'd want it - he reached into his pocket and offered her his second cigar.

She took the cigar with a nod still not saying anything. Sure she'd expected trouble but not like this.

He guessed he should be happy that Gloria wasn't angry or anything. After all, she was Victor's... not-quite-girlfriend. But then, Logan and her were friends. And that was about all the explanation it needed. He exhaled smoke through his nose, a long and slow exhale.

"You bust his balls?"

Plopping down next to the other big intimidating feral on base wasn't something Tabby would think twice about, even if he was smoking a big smelly cigar.

Logan's scowl deepened as Tabby just sat down next to him, without so much as saying hi, clearly not giving a shit that he obviously wanted to be alone. (Because, when Logan was pissed off, everyone had to be a mindreader.) He gave it a second or so before his patience ran out and he broke the silence he'd been trying to maintain. "What do you want?"

He grunted at that, looking away again. Tabby was a good kid, but Logan was in a shitty mood, and he wasn't a talker at the best of times. He took another long drag from his cigar, more or less ignoring the company. On the bright side, he didn't tell her to get lost. That was evidence that he liked her, really.
