Doing The Rounds (OTA)

Feb 28, 2010 18:46

Things had been chaotic lately. No, more than chaotic; near-catastrophic. Stryker hated to admit it, but perhaps Jack Hendley had been right when he'd criticised the Major for the way he was running things. Perhaps he did need to be a lot more strict in future, or else he'd risk losing his grip on what was going on around the camp, much as he ( Read more... )

X-13 didn't like the idea of having Martini in the hospital room, and he especially did not like the fact that Wolverine hadn't been punished for his crime. But there was nothing Scion could do, his hands were tied. He had no orders there for he could do nothing about how he was feeling. SO instead he did what a good soldier should, stayed silent, visited Martini when he could and focused on what he had in front of him ( ... )

"Thank you, X-13. Your behaviour is duly noted, and is a credit to your training. However, this isn't a formal inspection, so you can relax."

As always, Stryker was pleased by the young man's adherence to military discipline and he nodded in appreciation of the gesture, indicating that he could be at ease. He stepped into the room and raised an eyebrow at the array of weaponry on the younger man's bed, although he was glad to see that the weapons were being properly taken care of.

"Your attention to detail is commendable."

"...Yes , thank you sir."

X relaxed, only slightly to what he knew but his hand fell away from his forehead. He stood by his bed feeling quite proud at the fact that he was complimented by Stryker for his rigid method of obedience yet at the same time it was the only thing he knew. He watched Stryker curiously, seeing the Colonel inspect Scions weapons he had laid before he compliment Scion yet again. Good day, in X-13's book.

"Thank you, Major Stryker." Scion responded with a nod, his eyes falling down to the weapons around them before he lifted to William. "...May I inquire to the reason for this visit, sir?"

Toad was breakdancing. While he enjoyed his own special brand of it, most people did not. His usual breakdancing involved things getting broken in the process. Music was not allowed (kill me now, he had thought), so he was breaking up the chaos in his head by trying to remember favorite songs as he danced to them.

After a while, things got boring in the mess hall, so he took the next logical step: change up the scenery. Unfortunately gravity had a way of interrupting him when he tried to breakdance on the ceiling, no matter how many times he tried...

Hell, it was something to keep away the insanity.

Walking into the Mess Hall, Stryker's first reaction was one of disbelief. He'd known, of course, what this 'Toad' fellow was capable of... he just hadn't expected to see one of his troops having some kind of gravity-defying fit. Shock changed to irritation, and a distinct lack of amusement showed on the Major's face as he addressed the green-tinged mutant playing havoc with his ceiling.

"Having fun, Toynbee?"

"Ever SO much, mate," he let go of the ceiling and landed on the ground in front of the man. Being around Stryker was tricky, because Mortimer had to practice restraint in front of him. William Stryker was after all the man in charge. This bloke was not Eric, the only man Toad would show the most respect he could possibly muster, but Stryker could still have him sent away. That did not do well for the masquerade.

"Deepest apologies, sir," he said. "But what's a man to do when he has nothing to bide his time with?"

Doing the only thing he really could when not eating, talking, or on a mission, Wade had stuck to the training room/gym area of the camp. The mercenary never got tired of training himself or practicing. But in all honesty he was beginning to get a little antsy. Wade Wilson didn't do confinement. While he had reign of the campgrounds, things were pretty damned confined. Especially without him being assigned a mission in a long while.

Taking both his swords in one hand he sat down on the bench to take a breather, and a drink of water. Wiping the sweat from the side of his face he noticed the click of well polished boots striding down the hall. A corner of his lip began to twitch into a smile. There were only one set of boots that sounded like that.

His smirk spread fully when he turned his head to see Stryker. Well now, this was different. Sitting back against the wall he finally spoke. "Come to get a proper workout, Sir?"

This was just what the Major needed; the irritating, fast-talking mercenary deciding that he'd enter into a verbal sparring match with him. Stryker had one tiny nerve left, and Wade always seemed to find a way of getting onto it. He tried to keep his tone light and his face amused as he spoke to the other man, but deep down, he was already trying to think of a way of making the swordsman meet with an unfortunate accident. Preferably one involving a large truck or a long drop. Possibly both.

"Something like that, Wade," he commented amiably, trying to remember the last time when he had actually run through any kind of exercise routine. It always paid to be alert, especially when working with mutants. "I take it your gym membership hasn't run out, either?"

Though the Colonel was playing along, Wade could tell the man was already annoyed. He was pretty sure that he'd driven the man to mental insanity just at the sight of him. And it made the merc happy inside.

"I hope not, considering there's nothing else to do around here." There was a light hum in the air as Wade sheathed his swords behind his back so he could fold his arms. "Which brings me to the question, sir, how much longer are we going to stay?"

Hope was, once again, taking an armful of broken things out of the Infirmary. Martini's fits were less frequent with quests, but they still happened and she cleaned them up with a patient resignation.

It might be easier on her if she sedate Martini, or tied him down but really that would make things worse in the long run. She wanted to build trust between them, not become the hate white coated monster that lurked in his mind.

Still, there was a little voice that said she shoulder, especially when she caught sight of Stryker making his way towards her. He was not going to like this.

"Sir."

Ironically, she was just coming back to her room after visiting Stryker's office when she saw him in the hallway. One of the first things she noticed upon returning to the compound was that it was quieter. She had fairly hefty shields to block the incessant madness constantly playing in her head but it was always still there like white noise. Now there was less. It didn't take her long to figure out which people were gone and she was pissed.

She put it in writing that she wanted out. She accosted him in his office. She all but threatened him and nothing. He just gave her that superior expression and insinuated that he had something on her then ordered her from his office. So how was it that he just let the others go? If she were really such a hot commodity then why was he running her on bullshit babysitting missions like picking up little Ms. Nervous Chatter?

With a less than thrilled expression she sidled up in front of him. "Just the man I needed to see?
