Waking Up (OTA)

The first thing Mark was aware of was the steady beeping going on around him. He didn’t feel like opening up his eyes just yet. His entire body hurt, from his head to his little toe, and everything in between.  It took him a moment to remember what had happened. He had been antagonizing Logan in the gym…..then he had gone too far and Logan attacked ( Read more... )

Ric had been outside, oblivious to everything going on at the time as he smoked a cigarette and joked around with a few of the guards. It was the usual thing for him to do, kind of essential to keep up a friendly rapport with them as more often than not they were willing to smuggle things in for Ric in exchange for money or cigarettes ( ... )

Mark had just barely managed to get to his feet, but had still somehow managed to try and demolish the Med Bay singlehandedly. He was in full-on panic mode, his mind no longer in the present, but caught up in the past.

He was back at the asylum, face bruised as two orderlies pinned his arms to his sides. The indistinct face of a doctor flickered before him, indistinct words being heard but not understood. Not until "....give him a few jolts. Electroshock. He struggled against them, but it was no use as they dragged him towards the door, then being strapped to the table. He began to scream as the volts coursed through his body...

Ric's frantic voice snapped him out of it. He turned towards where the MPs stood, barring the one person he cared about the most from entering. "Ric!" He tried to take a step forward, but the adrenaline wearing off, coupled with the pint or two of blood he had already lost proved too much. He staggered and then fell on the floor.

Whilst Mark was suffering from losing his sudden rush of adrenaline Ric could feel his coursing through his veins, making his heart pound loudly in his ears. He recognised the moment Mark snapped out of the dream world he had been lost in, the lump in his throat catching at he watched Mark stagger towards to him before promptly crumpling to the floor.

At this the MPs let him go, standing by as Ric ripped off his stifling coat, dropped to his knees beside Mark's prone form and slowly turned him over. Please be okay. Please be okay. Please be okay. Please be okay. Please. Ric was unaware that the words were tumbling out from his mouth, as he ran his hands over Mark's body searching to see if he was bleeding or hurt anywhere. The IV had been yanked free from the back of his hand, leaving a red angry mark but apart from what appeared to be already addressed injuries Mark looked... exhausted? Pained? Fragile? Vulnerable ( ... )

Martini wasn't even aware that he had passed out. One moment, he had been standing in what had previously been a pristine lab, the next he found himself lying back in bed. If there had been a single part of his body that wasn't hurting, that had been rectified when he hit the floor.

Hearing Ric's panicked voice, he wondered what he would tell his boyfriend. He had screwed up big time, and had almost paid the price. It was definitely one of his stupidest moves, bar none. He didn't know how much Ric knew about what had happened, but he hoped that he hadn't gotten too panicked.

He forced his eyes back open and gripped Ric's hand, terror lending him strength. His voice was rough from yelling. "Lo siento. Please don't be mad at me." In a small whisper, he added, "Get me out of here."

It was luck and her mutation was saved her from getting it with a solid metal bedpan. Hope was just one step to the left of its trajectory and when she turned at Martini's scream, all her nerves awoke and instinct took over. She dove and ducked out of the way, then scrambled back up to her feet.

"Martini!" She yelled, throwing off her white coat before she dared approach him. "Martini stop! You'll injure yourself more and have to stay here longer! Stop this."

She had known the moment the MPs brought Martini in that this was going to end badly. Martini's history with doctors and hospitals there was just no way it was going to end well when he woke up. She wasn't going to keep him sedated or drugged though, there was no need. She'd talk him down if it killed her.

Considering his powers and how he was reacting, it just might end that badly.

Mark was pretty much destroying anything that came within reach. He was so keyed up, he didn't even notice as Hope walked in. Glass and metal alike smashed to the floor. He couldn't breathe, couldn't see, the blood was pounding in his ears.

Hearing Hope's voice, he turned toward her, nerves completely destroyed. Martini was shaking, somewhere between panic and fright. He felt like throwing up and passing out all as once.

His demeanor changed immediately, from anger to cowering in fear. He held up his arms, as if afraid she might strike him. "Don't hurt me. Please." His voice sounded very small.

The mess, the destruction, even the infirmary itself was secondary. Hope's mind was focused only on getting Martini to calm down. Everything else could wait.

"I won't, I promise," she said gently, holding her hands out to show him she had nothing on her and he had nothing to worry about. "I'd like it if you'd sit so I could make sure you haven't pulled any stitches. And then we can talk about you getting out of here."

His head began to swim, and Mark put out his hand to steady himself on a nearby counter. He was in no position to be trying to be out of bed, let alone trying to leave the infirmary. His chest felt like it was on fire, and it was only when he looked down that Mark realized he'd had his puncture wounds dressed and stitched up.

He shook his head vigorously, taking a step or two back. Rational thinking had flown the coop, along with seeing Hope as a person. She was a doctor, and that was it "I don't believe you! You're lying. They always do."

The moment Jason had heard his friend was in the Med Bay he had started off to see him. He was slowly adjusting to being near it mostly due to Hope's role as his friend but he still did not like it. He stepped inside and started toward his bed jumping when he heard him scream. Jason stared for a moment as he freaked out before doing the first thing he knew how to do, using his powers. He took a breath and quickly projected the image of an open field hoping to throw Martini out of his freak out.

Mark was trying very hard to remain calm. It wasn't working, and his rational thought process had shut down completely. He was still screaming when Jason's illusion hit him. "What the fuck..." He had just been in the lab, hadn't he? Martini sat down on the grass, staring up at the sky. He had gone from being scared to being confused, but the panic remained. There was only one explanation in his mind for why this would be occuring. "Great. I've lost my mind. Again."

Jason stepped up beside him,"No, I just could not think of a way to stop the screaming. Confusion seemed the best method of making it happen."

He looked over him slowly moving in to lay a hand on his arm. "You are still in the medical area. I thought an open space would convince you to speak with me."

He kept his voice even and calm not making an sudden movements. Jason had dealt with a few freak outs from Nicky but none were quite like this. It was fairly easy to shut Nicky down.

"Well, that's comforting." Martini said sarcastically. Really, he was grateful that his young friend had taken him out of the med lab, even if it was only in his mind. He just wasn't in the mood to be his normal cheerful self, not after what he had just been put through.

He was a little jittery, but managed to stay relatively relaxed as Jason laid a hand on his arm. "Well, I'm calm now. Mostly. Think you can switch it to the beach? Please?" Mark liked the beach, with only good memories of his days by the sea.
