Kevin had been thinking about the gold woman, his head back and his eyes closed, half dozing so he could ignore the ache in his chest. Dr Milbury had said that a needle would withstand his power--and Kevin already knew that anyway, he'd certainly been poked enough--but he declined the dope--or whatever they had on tap around here. Being out of his head wasn't something that anyone could afford.
His eyes opened at the voice--someone obviously talking to him. Kevin made a bit of his face and looked from empty bed to empty bed and then back to the woman in the doorway. "Jeep flipped. What do you want? Milbury's that way." He lifted a hand just enough to point to the offices.
That got a loud snort from Kevin, who watched her with sharp eyes as she moved closer. Making sure that she didn't get too close. "My ability," he repeated, his voice dry. Maybe a little drier than someone his age should rightful be able to manage.
"Interesting. Right." Kevin's dark eyes took Desdemona in from head to toe as nothing so much as a liability. It was how he sized up everyone: how much trouble they could cause. Would they take his word? Would they think they were above the rules?
Desdemona? Yeah, she looked like trouble.
Fighting a grimace, Kevin used his hands to push himself up into a more upright position against the pillows. His ribs protested and he told them to shut the hell up. He still had on every layer except his jacket, which meant glove, long-sleeved and sweatshirt were all still a go. Kevin kinda liked that it was cold in this place.
"So, what? You can tell what people mutations are? Great. Then I won't have to tell you to stay away. I love being saved a lecture."
Anyone who'd spent time at Xaviers while Nori was a student there would recognize the signs of her in a rush. Lights would flicker slightly and there was that faint whine of electricity that steadily grew louder as she approached
( ... )
The flickering lights rose Kevin's eyes to the ceiling and he wondered if all the snow around this place affected the wiring or something. Great. Not that he'd mind all the layers he'd get to wear to fight the cold but Kevin couldn't imagine that the rest of the team--
He blinked at the sudden appearance of the blue-haired girl next to him. He might have even been shocked if he hadn't seen it before. Kevin shook his head a bit at Nori's face and tried to smile. "Funny seeing you here, huh?"
Nori scrunched her nose slightly, sort of smiling in return. At least she knew he was alive. Safe was a different matter entirely. She sat on the chair beside the bed, taking in the injuries with a sigh. It was obvious for anyone that knew her that she was taking them as a failure on her part, a look of worry and dismay in her eyes for a moment before she shook it off. She should have just told Stryker she couldn't find him.
Same old Nori.
"Yeah. Hilarious," she said, her eyes returning to Kevins. "What happened?"
"I guess the roads up here are icy or something," Kevin said, trying to smile. Trying to get Surge to lighten up. He knew her well enough to know that she was probably blaming herself for what had happened--she was good at that. "Jeep flipped." Kevin shrugged. "You know, shit happens."
Shit happened a lot to him, but Kevin kept his mouth shut about that.
He'd figured that he should probably stop by and let Hope know he wasn't losing more memory. That it was confined to just what she knew. Only it wasn't really, since he'd apparently forgotten so much more.
He didn't think he'd mention that.
There was also the whole 'scene of the crime' thing concerning the missing oxygen cannisters. But it wasn't like he was the only person who would break in and take them. Unless someone actually saw the 'celebration' out at the ass end of the base.
Either way, Pyro ended up wandering into a somewhat deserted medlab, hands in pockets, shoulders hunched. He hated when they weren't just hovering around to be seen. "Anyone even in here?" He sort of hovered by the door, ready to just turn and walk out if Hope wasn't around.
Kevin was used to being alone; the quiet of the medlab didn't bother him, nor did the occasional bustle just outside the door--he didn't have any desire to join the party. Once people figured out just what he was... this place would be just like the rest
( ... )
The slight hiss of the decay didn't really catch St John's attention, the sigh could've been it, and St John ended up turning to face the sight of Wither holding nothing and dust over his face.
"Smooth move." Pyro smirked, although he was genuinely a little surprised to find Ford there. First Nori, now Kevin. And you had Jean to work into that. What the hell were they doing, recruiting out of Xaviers now?
"Aren't you a little away from that bubble you like to live in?" Staying beside the door, St John crossed his arms over his chest. He wasn't stupid enough to get too close to Kevin -not only because of his powers, but simply because it irritated the fuck out of Ford.
Kevin shook his head to clear it of dusted sheet and then winced, touching gloved fingers to his throbbing forehead. Another sigh was given before he opened his eyes. "Aren't you a little far away from anyone willing to put up with your shit?"
It was lacking heat. When it was Allerdyce it was always lacking heat. Kevin didn't hate the guy, couldn't, really. They'd never been friends and probably never would be but Allerdyce had always had this 'couldn't give a shit' attitude that Kevin couldn't help but admire.
Ty had mostly been keeping to himself. It was just his own quirk, being reserved and a loner by nature. But something was in the back of his mind, like an itch. Like a compass, it drew him to the source. He could feel it, someone was hurting terribly. It was too big a temptation not to follow, find the source, even tweak it and shape it into something new. A small smile briefly crossed his face.
He ended up at what he assumed was the medical lab. The doors opened with a slight whoosh as the air escaped, and his nose detected the sterile environment's scent of antisceptic, and even below that the faintest trace of a coppery odor that had to be blood. Entering, Ty's head went back and forth as he sought out the source. Ah, there it was. He could hear the sounds of someone's breathing, shorter and with more of a hiss than should have been present.
"You're in pain." It wasn't a question, merely stating the obvious.
Kevin was sitting up in bed, curled over a small pad of paper that Allerdyce had found him to draw on. He should have been using a tray, reclining, probably not drawing at all, but he was bored--and the curve of his body was making his ribs ache. It had started small and then progressed to a low throbbing... now Kevin recognized that he needed to relax or it would probably start to spasm or something but he ignored it, biting his bottom lip as he drew, gloved hand making soft whisking sounds across paper as he sketched. Between ignoring the pain and being in a bit of an artistic daze, Kevin heard the door open but didn't hear it. It was probably Milbury or Chandler, his subconscious mind decided, and he let it go.
The unfamiliar voice jarred him. Not because it wasn't who he expected it to be but because it was unfamiliar. Kevin jerked away from source before he'd even looked up and his already protesting midsection screamed at him; his sketchbook fell to the floor with a loud scuttle of weight and pages. He clapped a hand against
( ... )
Ty listened as Kevin realized he was there. His face twitched into a wince for a moment as the pain spiked when Kevin moved too suddenly in his bed. As he rustled around, Ty heard the something fall to the ground. The rather rude reply didn't deter him, but he did make a point of not getting too close to the bedside. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to startle you."
He picked up the pad of paper off the ground, and ran his fingertips over it. Ty could feel the individual lines, even where ones had been pressed harder into the paper than other. He could almost 'see' the picture that way. "But I couldn't help it. I could feel you in my head halfway across the compound." As soon as he said the words, Ty felt like an idiot. Without explanation, that made him sound like either a stalker or a lunatic.
Kevin narrowed his eyes, keeping a hand on his side as he watched the guy move. There was something off. For a kid who knew exactly how many ways people could look at you, something was off. Because he didn't really look. And his eyes didn't follow his fingers as he pulled them across the picture.
The words drew Kevin's attention back up. "Jesus Christ, what is up with this place?" It was really mostly muttered to himself, because Desdemona had found him the same way. Kevin blew out a breath and sank back against the pillows. "I just mean you're not the first. Do you tweak powers too?"
He didn't try to reach for the drawing pad. Even with gloves. Accidents could happen--especially if this guy was what Kevin thought he was. Better to just stay away.
