Jean arrives. [OTA, nudge Stryker]

Oct 30, 2009 15:58

She stared at the compound as the helicopter took off behind her, the rotors blowing her hair strait in front of her. A cloud of powdered snow kicked up, and she took a deep breath. Jean was officially to join Weapon X today, and she was already leery. Not worried, since that would've indicated that she couldn't take care of herself. She was leery ( Read more... )

Jason had been walking down the hall looking for victims to toy with when he spotted Jean. He froze staring at the woman that stepped inside. Jason knew who this was and he knew that this was likely going to cause some very big problems. He was also intrigued he hadn't been able to find out much about her in his time at Xavier's School. The Professor had wanted Jason to curb his darker instincts and had kept them very separated from each other.

Jean moved through the hall, the heels of her boots clicking on the polished concrete floor. The inside of the building wasn't much warmer than the outside had been. Her eyes closed for a moment and she let her mind reach out, gauging how many people were in her close proximity.

One was only a few feet from her. Familiar.

Jean opened her eyes, staring at the boy standing in front of her, a few yards away. Her eyes narrowed, and she picked up his name. Jason Stryker. Interesting. She'd seen him around Xaviers; she'd also flitted into his head before. She approached him slowly, her expression impassive.

"Jason."

"You are Jean,"Jason tilted his head looking over her curiously. He'd never expected to see her outside of Xavier's, he'd never actually thought he'd see her again. While he missed the school he was sure she would have different feelings about it.

Jason knew he wouldn't be able to keep her from his mind if she wanted in but he was prepared to try and use his own powers to keep her from anything important.

She nodded slightly, staring at him. She let her mind search into his, keeping to the front of his thoughts. Jean was looking for something interesting.

When she found nothing, she cocked her head to the side. "Is there a reason you're still standing here?"

He'd been expecting her, and his door was already unlocked and open, waiting for her arrival. He'd read a lot about Jean Grey, and he was actually quite looking forward to meeting the woman in person, even if she was a powerful telepath; Stryker had made sure he'd received some basic training in mental defence, but he was aware that his mental barriers were woefully inadequate against someone of Jean Grey's skill. So why had he insisted she be sent out here, at the risk of her discovering some of his secrets and plans? Perhaps it was because, rather foolishly, he thought he would be able to win her over to his side. His point of view. An ally with telepathic powers that he could really rely upon.

Emma Frost was becoming far too independent

Finding Stryker's office wasn't that difficult. The few minds she'd encountered along the way were all wide open, so Jean was almost humming. Her expression, though, showed only mild entertainment.

She pushed Stryker's door open, entering and taking a chair on the other side of his desk. Jean stared at him, folding her hands politely in her lap. "Major. The helicopter was a nice touch."

"Thank you, Miss Grey. I felt it would be important to make a point. As with all good shows, it's all about making a grand entrance."

His words were accompanied with a smile, and she would have been able to tell it was genuine; he knew he wouldn't be able to lie to her, although he was being as economical with the truth as much as he could be. He only hoped Emma had seen the helicopter's arrival - she hadn't had such luxury when she'd arrived to join the team in Africa, and the gesture wouldn't be lost on her.

"Now, did you wish to discuss anything with me before you are shown to your room?"

Jean stared at him as he spoke, letting her mind reach into his. He was trying hard to keep her out. Very interesting. She pulled back again, deciding that she wasn't in the mood to fight through mental blocks, no matter how rudimentary.

"I appreciate the grand gesture, Major. I did want to discuss something with you, actually." She sat forward in her seat, folding one knee over the other and resting her elbow there, taking her chin between her thumb and crooked forefinger. "Actually, it's not so much a discussion, really. I just wanted to make a few things crystal clear." She smiled at him, something devious behind it.

"I'm here by my choice. From what I'm gathering from the minds in this place, most are here because they had no place else to go and desperately need that pack mentality. Know that I don't." Jean leaned further forward, letting her hand rest on his desk. "And also know that I'm aware you have another telepath on the property, and if you think she'll be able to control me, you're quite mistaken." Jean didn't know the ( ... )
