So, after pulling myself together at the weekend and promising myself to cheer up and not be so grumpy, I find out from the temp this morning that I’m apparently leaving today. WTF?  Called hurriedly into a meeting with HR and the cowardly boss, I was told that for the sake of my happiness it is best ( Read more... )

It's a crappy practice in many industries and I've seen it many times over. The fact is that you leaving early for your own sanity is best. I've been there tho. My last employer insisted I had to give 30 days notice because they really needed that long to find a suitable replacement for me. And then I had to train her, but two days in they decided that was enough training and that I should leave that day. It was fine by me in the circumstances, I had already cleaned out my desk the day I wrote my letter of resignation and intended to give them no notice at all.

I'm sorry you've got hurt feelings right now, but believe me a week from now or anyway a month from now it will all behind you and you will be better off for being gone from there.

You tagged this "advice", so here's mine:

First, immediately apologize to everybody involved, for your emotional outbursts this month.

I assume you don't want this to be the last job you ever hold. If that's the case, you have to remember that someday, you're going to need these people as a reference. You're a professional, with almost four years of experience in this company...so you have to act like it. Even when you're being fired. Be brave!

Second, your boss and Human Resources are right. Your happiness is important.

I happen to have a mood disorder, and from what you've posted, it's possible that you have one too. Of course, it's equally possible that I'm reading too much into what you've written. Get a professional's opinion. It can't be much more trouble than an employment lawyer, right? :)

(mod here, I was the one that actually tagged the entry, since it's the community rules to tag entries before submitting, but I didn't want to reject the post)

My enormous apologies; I haven't posted so long, I'm in that wierd place where you forget you've forgotten the rules.
