Find out if your state has a wage and labor type office, and file a complaint. File another complaint with the BBB, and send a very detailed letter/complaint to the company headquarters. That is ridiculous and so thoroughly illegal that every manager in that place ought to be fired.

File complaints with the BBB, your state's department of Labour, and home office of whatever chain this is. Do it right now. (Not even giving you a bathroom to change in could also constitute sexual harassment.) This is bullshit.

I've never heard of low income jobs pulling this shit before. Usually it's the big ticket ones, that try to get you to do a presentation or design something as part of the interview and then steal your work. Sounds like what this shitbag manager was doing was trying to cover a shift without having to pay you.

report them to the BBB at least, and if possible, their corporate headquarters.

I know, I couldn't believe even a minimum wage employer was doing this. Luckily I was such an inefficient worker that if they WERE trying to get me to cover a shift, I just dragged them down instead.

This is not something I can report to the BBB, unfortunately, as the BBB says clearly on their site that they don't deal in any way with complaints related to employment practices.

Ohhhhh. Well, I think then that the labor board in your state would do it for you, else call the corporate headquarters.

WTF, seriously, that is NOT COOL. Definitely see if you can find out who the District or Regional Manager is - the store manager's supervisor, essentially - and call and complain to him/her.

They are going to protect themselves, you don't go to them you go to the regulatory supervisory board above them and report them.

You know you can report them to hours and wages, they are a subsidy of the unemployment office, and file a claim against them for free. Just tell them everything that you just wrote and they will definetly get in trouble and you might even get to be paid for the hours you worked.

P.S. It's worth looking into.
