In my experience this is exactly the kind of letter they send out to everyone. It WILL seem stalkerish to try to find him and connect on LinkedIN. Don't do it.

agreed. sounds like a form letter.

(batter and more courteous than most companies send out, though. i give his company points for putting attention toward that end of hiring as well)

It seems like a generic one to me, but it's hard to say if it's one they send out to all applicants, or just those that made it to the 'maybe' pile rather than the straight 'no' pile.

Congrats on the job! I hope your store is busy. I'm doing seasonal work over xmas in a department store, and I've been working in the toy department the last few weeks, and it's so boring at times -.- you kind of wish a bunch of kids will come in and mess it all up just so you have something to do lol.

I'd say get on LinkedIn, and see if he adds you himself. If not, then at least you're already there and can make other contacts.

I'm not entirely sure how it all works there. I only recently learned it was for networking, and had blown it off a while ago thinking it just anoher social site like Facebook.
