I guess he gets points for trying something. I mean when you're down to almost nothing left...taking a dare like that doesn't seem so bad. Especially since it DID land him an interview and job offer.
I think it's admirable - I personally wouldn't have the guts. Initiative and being brave mean a lot in a competitive world like this one, and he got where he did through plain good old fashioned spirit.
On one hand, it's innovative. On the other hand, recruiters hate the smell of desperation. Koybayashi maru.
I actually just scored a job in a rather odd way. A recruiter I'd had on and off contact with since 2007 called me out of the blue. Seemed his placement agency sent a rep to the site, only for that guy's immigration paperwork to go bust. Recruiter knew I was in the market, knew my skill set, had a copy of my current resume and references. He had to pretty much grab someone who could start...like yesterday.
So, as of the 17th, I'm contracted out to what's looking like a really sweet gig so far. I'm just praying that something doesn't go wrong. Mr. Hill did me a BIG favor here, and it's not just my reputation on the line when it comes to the gig. It's his rep, too.
