So, Prophecy was awesome. Really, really awesome. And ya know what? Wearing a costume is ridiculously fun!
Thursday, got to the hotel around 4:30. Watched the last bit of the wizard chess match then went to the opening ceremonies. Dinner was pretty good, even though the servers didn't bring me my veggie meal until everyone else was getting their dessert. Sat with fairly friendly people as well as one really annoying, condescending guy who I bumped into repeatedly throughout the rest of the conference. After dinner, we walked around, looking at the various rooms. Spent $80 in the vendor room then went to the Divination workshop, which was really well done. Watched the wizard rock concert for an hour or so, mostly Draco and the Malfoys, then went home just after 10pm.
Friday, got downtown just after 9:30 and snuck into Intellectual and Interpersonal Intimacy in the Classroom: Teacher-Worship at Hogwarts. Next was the Figure Drawing and Portraiture for the Fanartist workshop (very fun!) and the Culture, History, and Emerging Trends in HP Slash panel (really awesome sense of community in this one). Took a break for lunch before going to The Power of Harry's Mistakes, then The Way of the Wolf: Werewolves, (Mis) Representation, and Mental Illness which was really well thought out and quite interesting. Next was Navigating the Forbidden Forest: HP and Mythic Thinking, which I'm afraid I don't remember at all, and lastly Accio Fanart! A Workshop dedicated to Drawing from the HP World in your Mind. Had some dinner, went to the fantasy writing workshop (a bit disappointing), then watched the Wizard Talent competition, followed by a fan film. Both were pretty funny, and I managed to finish knitting my mum's Gryffindor scarf.
Arrived just before 10 on Saturday, then went to Snape and the Eucharist: the Importance of Christian Sacrifice , The Case for a Love Affair Between Sirius and Remus (really enjoyed this one too), and Magic and Technology in HP (not so exciting, started to drift off a bit) before going to lunch. Checked out the vendor room yet again and spent even more money, then went to a Snape roundtable where I had to sit on the floor behind all the chairs and action. The Connie Neal Harry's Hero's Journey presentation was next (I thought it was really well done, and it definitely kept my interest), followed by the Phoenix Song presentation and the tail end of the Finding HP in the Real World panel. Sat around in the gardeny area after that and had frozen yogurt, then eventually went to the Tarot Divination (which has rekindled my interest in tarot) and Mythology workshops. I honestly think the workshops were the highlight of my Prophecy experience. I love the small, open, learny environment, and most of the topics were really interesting and well presented. Went to the Ball for an hour so and was pretty disappointed with it, though I have no idea what I was expecting. Also bought one of their non-alcoholic butterbeers for $5.25 (with alcohol was another $4 - why so costly?), which turned out to be quite disgusting. ;)

Very awesome Sorting Hat cake from the art gallery.
This quilt was absolutely amazing. I can't imagine how long it took the artist to make. There was so, so much detail.

Took the bus down on Sunday morning and holy god, it was crowded. People were squashed up against each other all around and there was much unwelcome shoving and ass-gropery. Yay, public transit. ;) Anyway, got there at about 9:15 and waited around for the closing ceremony to start. I thought it was a bit underwhelming, but hey - it was the last day. The breakfast 'feast' itself was pretty dull (I think I had an apple and part of a muffin :/ ), but I sat with some very nice, chatty Americans who seemed to have really liked Toronto. After food, we checked out the vendor room again (got the discounted Dark Mark shirt and a bumper sticker), snagged some leftover sketches from the art room, then watched the first hour and a bit of the auction ( lots of very tempting artwork, but I didn't win anything) before heading home.
As much as I enjoyed myself, I do feel like I would have had an even better time if I had stayed in the hotel. I didn't meet many people and missed out on several later events due to travel/commuting time and weird transit hours. But still, lots of fun!
And what's up with all the stupid drama, LJ? Why can't you just piss off and let us enjoy our porny fandom?
